Popular Post DA Baracus
Thought about doing a separate thread for each of those but then realised that there will probably be quite a bit of overlap. Anyway, a thread to talk about your experiences of working from home and isolation, and perhaps share your thoughts, tips, best practices and rants. On working from home, there are some sensible suggestions. They won't work for everyone, but definitely worth a try if you have a tough time adjusting; - Have a defined space set up for working, and only work in that space - Make sure the space is well light; natural light can do wonders and a window is a surprising luxury for some folk usually confined to an office! - Ensure you are sitting properly and at the right height to access your computer. You should know how this works, but be careful of slouching on the couch with your laptop. Don't f**k your back and wrists! You'll need the latter a lot for the power of wanking you'll get through - Take regular breaks. An obvious one really, and one that should apply to anywhere, but more so to working at home. Saw someone suggest the 25 minutes work then 5 minute rest thing. Give it a bash. Take your lunch hour/half hour/whatever as normal, when you usually would too, but try to do something other than look at a screen. Read a book perhaps? - Get a routine! Think of how your work day usually is when you don't work from home. Try waking up at the same time. Go for a walk, or even a drive, then come back in to start when you usually would, just at home. As I said, perhaps not for everyone, but some people work better with a routine. If you go for a coffee at 10.00, make yourself one at hKNow ome at 10.00. - Remove distractions! Hard to do in the home, but try and have your workspace clearly defined and remove things that will distract you. Children can be secured in the coal bunker - Keep in touch with your colleagues. Well, the sound ones that it. f**k the idiots, the smelly and the ones with no/shite patter. Give them a phone, even if it is to just talk shit and slag each other. Fire around emails to groups, always remembering to delete your deleted emails. No evidence! I've been working from home since Wednesday. Work gave me a laptop for it. I feel like I'm quite lucky as my work have been pretty sounds about everything, and of course I get to actually keep my job, unlike many others. They do insist on using fucking Teams for meetings though. It doesn't work. Garbled video (I turn video off) and weird sound that keeps cutting out, especially when loads of folk try to talk at the same time. Teams wasn't designed for folk using their home internet connections! Work servers and connections tend to be more robust and faster. In terms of isolation, I've made no secret of it on here before, but I am pretty isolated much of the time anyway. It can often be fine, sometimes great, but can also be shit and challenging, although unless utterly forced to by necessity, I will never live with another person again unless it's a lady who will take my seed. Again, routine can help. As an example, I always do a full clean of the flat every Saturday morning whilst listening to Fighting Talk (and sometimes Off The Ball, depending on how long I take and how early I got up). I then usually fire in to town to pick up things I need and then back for a lunch. Obviously I'll be giving the town a miss now, but can easily replace that with a walk for example (or another anagram of that word). Try not to booze on your own. Doesn't really help things and the situation will feel a lot worse the day after. Don't be afraid to nap! As silly as it sounds, a wee hour nap can often help big time. Try to stay off social media. It's flaming garbage most of the time, but much worse at the moment, and your brain will only recall the more extreme scare stories and not the good ones. Have things to look forward to. Perhaps a new episode of a TV series comes out on a certain day each week? Make time for those things. Try and speak to folk as well. Text, messaging, phone, very long string and a can, amusing penises carved on the moon; keep the f**k in touch! Hard for some folk, but be the one to make the first move. This very thread can be used for such things. Post nonsense that will make us laugh, tell us something interesting, but no dick pics. Know that things will get better. Not in the Tony Blair 1997 way, where 'better' meant terrible war crimes, but better for you, however you define it. Right, enough rambling pish. Share your own. throbber
My gf been working from home since Tuesday and has our 2 year old daughter for company, I get back from work at about 5 and the house is a mess, the wee one is screaming the house down and the girlfriend is on the edge of mental breakdown and needs to go for a bath/lie down the second I get in the door and I need to sort out the mess and the screaming child. My girlfriend complains that she can’t get all her work done coz her work haven’t given her a laptop yet and she is “twiddling her thumbs” but still says she has no time to do the washing/ the dishwasher and just leaves it all for me to deal with when I get in the door as if I haven’t been out working all day. Her work today were due to deliver her lap top around 5 o clock but the woman who was meant to be dropping it off somehow managed to run the lap top over in her own car.

Sorry throbbs but that last sentence is comedy gold, how can you even start to ponder the sequence of events that led to that happening.

Doesn't work in court though, and things can still be retrieved from it. Apparently.

parsforlife
I've been tempted to start a P&B guide to keeping yourself sane thread but this probably covers it. I've been lucky(in terms of sanity and job security)/ unlucky(you are all going to die) that work has continued pretty much as normal so that's 40 odd hours covered but my social life has been decimated, I'm normally pretty content with my own company but less than a week in and i'm struggling a bit without seeing people in a social context, normally I have something most days but these have all been cancelled and I'm left sat at home bored as f**k in the evenings, This will be the first weekend where I had absolutely nothing planned in a long time. If anyone has any tips on how to properly use this time go ahead. I can think of a few things(gardening, phoning family etc) but this isn't going to fill the weekend and there's little chance that 2/3 weeks down the line when work possibly gets cut back and the to do list gets ticked off that i'll not lose it. P.S glad to see you back @DA Baracus Edited March 20, 2020 by parsforlife

Keep 3 metres apart at all times, so stick him/her in the boot.
ICTChris
I worked with a guy once whose office was shut down but due to his contact was offered the chance to apply for a similarly levelled job, which he got and was offered but only if he worked from home. He took it and worked 12hour shifts four on four off without ever seeing his colleagues. He used to alternate between working in his house and living at his girlfriends and vice versa because he found it intolerable to just sit in the same room all the time. The room in our house that was my office was lost when my son made his appearance so I’ve had to shift a load of things about in our bedroom to get something approaching a set up. Hopefully it’ll do and this won’t last too long, I’d be amazed if I’m back in work before June though.
