League Reconstruction 20/21 season

Recommended Posts

Spain used to have an 18 team La Liga with a 6-6-6 split.....of course that would mean a 44 league game season and a middle group of 6 Clubs with f**k all to play for in the last 10 games of the season.

16 team top league would be absolutely brilliant. Just getting MWI for about 5 years until it gets boring then move up to an 18 team league. Then the clincher - on the tenth year it drops back down to a 12 team league.

Make it so.

Perhaps we should rotate the numbers in the league?

Year 1 - 10 teams - 36 league matches no split.

Year 2 -  12 teams - 38 league matches with 6-6 split.

Year 3 -  14 teams - 38 league matches with 7-7 split.

Year 3 -  16 teams - 30 league matches with no split.

Year 4 -  18 teams - 34 league matches with no split.

Year 5 -  20 teams - 38 league matches with no split.

Then go back down the list.....

They did it for one season and then binned it immediately for the exact reason you mentioned.

Two top divisions of 12 teams (ignoring the further down divisions here). Each division operates on a 2 game home/away basis plus one game against the teams in the other division. 34 games in total, no need for splits and the inter divisional games take away the need for play-offs. 2 up 2 down.

Brilliant really.

Re-start the season in September - end it early December - start the new season late Jan/early Feb - we're forced to give Summer fitba a go - boom.

Best case scenario, though, is to declare this season null and void - not because it would save us from relegation, but because I want to see neil lennon's head explode.

Announce it at 9am on 1 April, we get 3 hours of Neil Lennon's head exploding and then give the real announcement afterwards.

Sorted.

That's my preference.

For that reason.

The Old Firm bleed Scottish football dry.

With no Old Firm, the rest of the clubs would have a more competitive set up, more fans coming through the gates and more money.

non sequitur alert. Why would the teams not competing for the title get more people through the gates and more money than they do at the moment? The suggestion seems to be that more people would turn up for a mid-table clash between St. Mirren-v-St Johnstone for example simply because the sisters are no longer around? Also, the idea that we would have a logjam of teams competing for the championship if the ugly sisters disappeared does not stand up to any scrutiny at all.

Hardly a predictor for what higher leagues might do, let alone other countries, but still...

Coronavirus: All football below National League to end

"Some men's teams, such as Jersey Bulls and Vauxhall Motors, had already secured promotion to step five of the non-league pyramid, but their promotions will now be cancelled. Jersey Bulls had won all 27 of their matches in the Combined Counties Football League Division One and were 20 points clear at the top."
