The oppertunity to move to summer football

Recommended Posts

And the fact that current season runs august to june (10 months) so the new season would be february to november (10 months) therefore the start of the season and end of the season would have the same issue as the middle of the current season. Not to mention june to august is holiday season for players and their families......

Summer football is a non starter without even considering the fact that all senior football runs from august to june the following year.

Summer football offers many advantages. Yes there would still have to be games played in the colder months and our weather is crap at any time of year, but overall there would be fewer games lost to the weather if we could play through summer. Not to mention more long summer nights to enjoy time in your local beer garden before and after matches.

For teams without floodlights or even those who could make a saving by not switching them on, those long nights would allow for midweek games without lights on.

Having the close season is just a convention, there's no real logical reason to play sports outside in the winter in northern Europe if it can be avoided.

Yup. You've got me but Scottish football doesn't have a great history with change.

Long summer nights in beer gardens, have you been to some of the places football is played? That's just another point to list in the idealist list of reasons for summer football that fall apart at the slightest scrutiny.

Yes I have. The Elizabethan in Dunfermline one example just off the top of my head. How is the winter football idealists' list looking? Genuinely curious.

The season as it is provides enough dates to complete fixtures and games start in late June, early July until May. The period you seem to lack football in is about 6 weeks max.

Now it’s the pyramid would have no
Chance summer football. Before that was silly not having it the extra footfall through the gates with no
Senior games in middle May June July playing twice a week would have been a very good earner for teams.
