Coronavirus and the Scottish Championship

The most important thing, given the make up of the SPFL board, is that Alloa Athletic hold on to their Championship spot.

If they do go ahead with this, then a team, at some point, will have to be relegated from the Prem. If they can't complete the Prem season, they will have to relegate Hearts.

A vote is to be held. If passed, United will be promoted and Partick will be relegated, with play-offs cancelled. Raith will be promoted for next season, but Hearts won't be relegated yet until the SPFL board decide the Premiership cannot continue.

I can’t see partick or falkirk voting for this.

SPFL clearly panicking that ICT were going to catch and overhaul Dundee United so they're wanting the Arabs promoted ASAP. Disgraceful

Or any of the play off contenders championship teams.

johnny, the official SPFL site states they are looking at restructuring for 2020-21 season.

The carrot to be dangled will be promotion for some clubs, which has a knock on as you progress down the leagues. If two go up from the Championship, 4 could be promoted from League One, and four from League Two. leaving spaces for Celtic and Sevco's colts to fill.

They've specifically said that this is the case.

The justification for holding back on the top flight to me seems nonsense, if you are passing the resolution for three of the divisions, then surely that must be compatible with what happens in the top flight. If the top flight was to finish, then why can't the teams in contention for top flight football get their opportunity to do that? I don't give a shit about the start of the League Cup next term.

Also the line regarding reconstruction, 'you are relegated with a game in hand over your biggest rivals but give us another few days and we'll maybe sort out some sort of compromise and get a supermajority of clubs in favour of something that benefits you'.

"Consulting on the possibility" doesn't fill me with hope tbh.

I'm unsure, as this is a novel situation, how the weighting will go in terms of votes. You'd think they shouldn't get a vote on what happens down the leagues in any case.

The decision on the top flight is being held back because UEFA, quite rightly, asked clubs to adopt a wait and see approach rather than shooting their load and jumping in too early, which seemed to be the preferred view of several countries around Europe, including ours. That obviously only applies to top flight leagues, so they are holding fire on that decision, which is what they should really be doing for all four.

That outcome is the fairest outcome IMO, at the end of the day Hearts and Partick have been jobby all season and put themselves in the situation they're in and really do deserve to go down.

Notice at the end of the statement the SPFL has committed to further talks with the clubs about league reconstruction for 20/21 season.

The top flight will probably vote 10 for and 2 against, with them funnily enough being Rangers and Hearts

This appears to have a "worst of all worlds" flavour about it:

Finishing some leagues but not all implies that circumstances to complete one league will exist, but not for the other three (5 if you include Highland & Lowland, but don't know if that's specifically included), which is nonsense. Having promotion/relegation but not play-offs is just pushing the legal challenge route down a level or two, not getting rid of it. There is still uncertainty about when and if the season will finish and language such as "looking at possibilities" is just code for "well, we will have to say something, so we will essentially say nothing of consequence".

Pretty much as expected, then...
