Coronavirus and the Scottish Championship

Poland's in full lockdown, so I dare say your hotel would have been shut anyway.

Good luck getting a penny off Ryanair of course.

Girlfriend is Polish so I am aware of the situation there and you are correct, getting there and staying there at present is impossible and I do not see that changing anytime soon.

I booked our accommodation through Airbnb  and the terms say it will give a full cancellation refund right up until 11th May but not convinced it will be honoured.

As for Ryanair, that should be fun.  They are still selling flights for the dates we are supposed to have been going so no cancellation yet so will be interesting to see what cunning ploy they come up with to keep our cash.

In the bigger scheme of things it is not a big amount of money, a lot of people are in desperate situations right now and my heart goes out to them.

I said previously, and I still stand by this - until we can assure the current financial stability of clubs during this period we will be unable to have decision.

What's the point of of making a decision on the matches if we don't know if some teams are going to survive to play the remaining matches or play next season?

The part I'm still having difficulty processing is why the fact that people are dying of coronavirus is relevant here. Neither of those decisions (or a decision to complete the season in a few months) are going to make any difference to what happens to those ill people, but they are going to make a difference to clubs and their employees. Therefore these two things need to be completely separated when making decisions.

You're right about making a difference, senior citizens are in the high risk area of this virus and according to my club the vast majority of season ticket holders are senior citizens and I would think that that is the same for most Championship clubs.

Around 40 million people died during the First World War and yet the Scottish top flight played a 30+ game calendar season in each of those four years. We didn't void the 1968-69 season when around 80,000 people in the UK died as a result of the 'Hong Kong' flu pandemic; nor the 57-58 season when another 33,000 were killed by a similar strain. More recently, an estimated 13,000 people died in the bog standard flu season of 2008-09 which went unremarked by everyone apart from medical experts.

There is really no point at all in posting that, unless you felt it necessary to prove that you can use Google and Wikipedia just as well as the rest of us can.  The most telling fact is that you fail to acknowledge that the fixtures were successfully completed in the years you mention. There was no nationwide, continent wide or worldwide suspension of football (and indeed virtually everything else) for an indefinite period, which is what we are seeing now. Yet again you’re comparing apples to oranges in an an attempt to make yourself look clever* .

There has to be some contingency plan discussed and ready to roll out as and when it’s deemed safe to restart football. The alternative is to do nothing and find ourselves in as clueless a position when the go-ahead is given as we are in now. If any teams are unable to complete this season’s fixtures (if that is the option decided on) then all of their previous results against all clubs would be voided.

Having some sort of plan for the eventual resumption of the game is essential.

Null and void is the only sensible answer.

I don't think null and void is sensible. This season wasn't a Kris Doolan goal against Morton, we can't simply pretend it never happened. The games were played.

Declare the season over, no promotion or relegation but distribute prize money and bonuses accordingly. Let the results stand for the record books and disciplinary procedures.

Would agree with that as well.

Hmmm, you two wouldn’t have any ulterior motives here by any chance, would you?

Has there been any confirmation about what's happening with player wages? Are the government loaning clubs money to give them 80% while they're furloughed?

Paul McGowan said on Open Goal last night that quite a few clubs have a clause in contracts that allows them to withhold 'wages' should an event like this arise. The PFA are in talks with lawyers just now.

They arent lending it, they are giving it, but only to a maximum of £2500 per person per month. Football clubs are certainly eligible for the scheme, whether they choose to implement it is up to them. Of course the maximum will be well below the wage for most top division players and probably the Dundee clubs and maybe Thistle.

Also, we dont know yet when the clubs will get the money back. They are still going to have to find it in the first place for a few weeks.

Every club almost certainly has the same contracts. The SPFL issues a standard contract for clubs to use though I guess its possible the biggest clubs use something bespoke of their own.

Should come to agreement for season to be completed. At least then there will be sufficient time to plan start date and length of the next season even if just playing shorter season.

Leagues finish as is, top teams champions, bottom teams relegated, playoffs decided by creating a Round Robin league in Fifa. Teams to be created specially by the developers and to be played co-op by each teams manager and captain.

Streamed live on YouTube.

Any advertising cash to be spread evenly amongst the league to help the clubs stay afloat.

Job done.

Null and void the season.

Next season starts with bonus points for league placings as they stand now - and some way to reward those moaning cnunts currently running away with their leagues.

Ah fuckit,  null and void this season and start next season with the points currently on the board standing.

(in Utd's case, make that a negative points standing)
