Coronavirus and the Scottish Championship

Aye your right, there is no way clubs can sell any form of ticket to watch these matches.  It's not like the majority are set up already to broadcast matches.

No, they will be played out behind closed doors and nobody would ever see anything of them.

So you're maintaining that despite no longer charging money at turnstiles for admission, matchday income would not really be decreased any?

How extraordinary.

What do you think the potential uptake and cost of a ticket might be?

All I'm asking is that clubs look at every possible avenue before making a final decision and, potentially, not having any football at all until 2021. If it's a non starter or not financially viable, then fair enough, but I would at least like the question to be asked...

You don't need to ask it, it'll be in the terms of the existing contract. Why would one broadcaster give away rights to another?

Are you struggling to understand the difference for anyone other than possibly the OF (& if they are playing closed door the tv companies will already be showing it)?

Even if you can charge the same per live stream as per match entry, you will have shared occupancy subscriptions (families wont pay for multiple streams), people gathering to watch together, large swathes of crowd who simply dont have the know how or technology to do it plus those for whom football is a social occasion and they arent actually that interested in watching it alone at a cost. There would be some offset of course by people watching who dont live close enough to have attended anyway. Thats likely minimal for most lower division clubs though.

Single camera setups arent likely to produce great coverage anyway.

Online broadcast sales would be lucky to raise a third of a normal gate receipt, quite possibly a lot less imo.

I think it would be high, given the option of watching the game or not seeing it at all you would be hitting similar (insignificant decrease) numbers.

There is also the wider economic impact of this crisis too with regards to how much disposable income is there vs even a few months ago.

How much would you be charging people?

You need to charge normal (adult) gate price, the current cheaper prices that those abroad can pay to watch won't work if you are trying to replicate 75% of current income.

Yes, good luck with it.

There's no way on earth you'd get sufficient uptake to allow even the 25% drop in income you've suddenly decided would be acceptable.

Closed door games

Sell season tickets - paid up front or direct debit.

Sell advertising (mainly businesses who are ‘online sellers’ to maximise potential.

Live stream on a ‘season ticket’ and ‘pay per view’ basis for home and away fans.

Either do it as a league, or club by club basis, but you would think by league you could maximise advertising (larger companies getting max exposure - amazon etc) and keep costs to a minimum

Clubs could sell virtual half time draw tickets.

Could arrange with online retailers / food outlets for a ‘matchday food pack’ - pie, Bovril, etc.

There are so many ways that you could run with these - just takes the balls to actually realise that as things stand - nothing else is going to happen and clubs will fall like dominoes

They will fall more quickly if you advocate paying full wages on pittance damage limitation income!

Closed doors games is crazy talk.

Here's an idea. We wait until there's a vaccine for this Virus before commencing with any sport.

By then the vast majority of Scottish clubs will have went bust.

You are delusional.

The vast majority of fans simply aren't that desperate to see Ayr play Alloa. Sorry.

Yes, the income streams that German clubs can generate and the income they get from sponsorship and TV revenue are definitely comparable to what teams like Annan or Morton or Forfar etc get in terms of a percentage of their total income.

Exactly.  The sad fact is, we will be driven by how the likes of Spain and Italy react to loosening measures rather than Germany.

Closed door games might work for the old firm.  But to presume that clubs in League 1 for example, will get 75% of their fanbase paying full gate price to watch games live is at best extremely optimistic.

I would hazard a guess that no football at all until next year would be preferable to closed door games until next year, at this level and below anyway.

I suppose for Dundee it wouldn't cover the astronomical prices you and your neighbours across the road charged everyone this season for 2nd tier football.

So you're not willing to pay an extra £3 to watch your team live but you reckon football can be saved and people will happily pay £20 to watch on a shite stream in their house?
