I'm at least a bit clearer on the process now.

It's not really a vote. It's a resolution requiring x %age to pass.

Clubs have 28 days to agree to the resolution or it falls.

In essence there is no such a thing as a 'no' vote only yes votes.

So, once a yes has been received it can not be revoked. Clubs can indicate they will vote no but legally it doesn't mean anything.

Sort of.

No votes can, I think, formally kill a proposal, which in any case lapses in the absence of the requisite support if one of the thresholds becomes impossible to meet.

This would explain why certain parties would be so keen for Dundee to not have their vote treated as a No at this time. Even if Dundee later changed its mind, the proposal would have to be remade, and those clubs who voted Yes (who were prevented thereafter from changing their vote) would be able to vote afresh. So if one or two decided on reflection that "actually no, you rushed us into agreeing to this last time and we're not for it this time" your deadline for the motion is later than before and it might lose again because of a different set of votes even if Dundee back it second time round.

This has been the shitest day of the SPFLGate so far.

Dont worry, forest fires are expected to hit Chernobyl in the next week so we'll have another worldwide disaster to talk about 😂

Dundee Evening Tully

You can piss right off with that one, not having the opportunity of having Hearts in the league next season who would bring the biggest following to the majority of away games in the championship which would be a massive financial boost for clubs.

Hearts deserve to go down.

Only championship teams who would benefit from that would be Inverness, Dundee and Thistle. The three clubs who are in this secret WhatsApp group, coincidence that. The rest of us would be shafted.

This would never get the backing from Premiership clubs who have been fighting with Hearts in a relegation battle this season, they'll want Hearts to go down and Rangers and Celtic will never agree to it because they'll get less money. That suggestion will get as far as Dundee's vote got on Friday night, nowhere.

But having the 2 best teams from this season not in the league, with Hearts also not in the league would mean that teams like Dundee and Ayr have a much better chance of being promoted next season - which would obviously be a bigger financial boost for whomever went up than having Hearts visit twice.

I like the idea of a 14 team top flight (and not just because it would give us a frankly undeserved reprieve from relegation), but I don’t think this will go anywhere.

This, this is why it's worth it.

I think we can all agree that whilst your team winning is the best thing in football a very very close second is "bigger" teams falling flat on their face.

That's why Hearts and Partick getting relegated would be utter hilarious in the same way as Falkirk, Hibs, Rangers and yes United, all flailing about in recent years has made this decade a golden age of banter.

I'm reluctant to give that up but you really can't relegate teams before a season ends.

Promoting teams is imperfect but at least it's not putting anyone at severe detriment.

Is probably the only advantage tbh however i'd expect Dundee to dramatically improve next season and the likes of yourselves to turn around and be at the right end of the table. Idk what kind of investment Falkirk would do, if any, if they got back up, don't know whether they'd be relegation dogfight jobbie again or back up the top end of the championship like they were a few years ago.

Just don't think it's fair that Hearts get away with relegation tbh. Considering they're further adrift at the bottom than yourselves and they don't have any games in hand either.

Thing is though if we're going to go down that route of viewpoint there are 3 places in the championship which are titled under "promotion play offs" which means that those 3 clubs must be given the chance to fight for promotion. Meaning the current proposal of just Inverness getting promoted is completely unfair on Dundee and Ayr.

If it's going to be only promotion and no relegation then it'll have to be a 16 top flight IMO. It could also be just for next season because of the unique circumstances.

Motherwell got away with relegation because Falkirk didn’t have a 10,000 capacity stadium and they refused to allow Falkirk to ground share.  Can you imagine needing a 10,000 seated stadium just to play top flight football in Scotland?  Those days really were crazy!

We can't have Ayr in the top league. What would people think?

Yes. Being one of the mug teams that tried to keep up with it, it's caused us significant ballache over the years to say the least.

You could argue that solution is not fair either on the 3 teams just outside the playoff places

As I've said before no solution is going to keep every team happy.

I'm happy with 14 team league with United & Caley going up as no team gets punished. Whilst the likes of Caley getting put up could be deemed as a slap in the face to Dundee & Ayr - it's not having a direct negative impact on either club and I'd rather clubs benefit unfairly than are punished unfairly.

I'm also happy with the status quo. No promotion/no relegation proposal as I think it's much more damaging for a club like Hearts/Partick Thistle to go down due to an incomplete season than it is to deny a club going up (Unless they've been spending recklessly).

Not really a fan of the 16 team league idea and it's not going to happen. Potential for this radical idea to be the best of all but simply won't happen.

Ayr voted to bin the playoffs in the current proposal.
