If it's true (and presuming the whole post isn't trolling in the first place, for the Sun to get as far as publishing it would suggest it is), then it's an attempt to split hairs. The clubs have already been told that a null and void option isn't on the table for commercial reasons. Therefore what Dundee are proposing is essentially what the SPFL are already proposing (call the Leagues off now, award the positions as they stand on an average points basis) BUT adding the caveat of no ups and downs.

Effectively then that takes the offence away from Hearts, Thistle and Stranraer and instead will have United, Raith and Cove howling. It doesn't help Rangers or Falkirk who will presumably still be up in arms about it as Celtic still win and Falkirk still don't go up. We'll leave aside that Rangers' actual statement didn't mention Celtic and was all about the unfairness of Hearts, Thistle and Stranraer going down 🙄 ). It's not really a better solution, it just changes the clubs being affected to three slighlty less infuential ones (and gives Dundee another season of derbies and the chance to deny United promotion 🙄 ). Hibs might also be fans at a commercial level as it preserves the Edinburgh derby.

I don't see clubs supporting it over the alternative proposed by the governing body to be honest. I think there will be an expectation of some promotion reward for a season which isn't voided. It may even be legally required.  It's a reach that this will go anywhere.

Not trolling matey.

I just think that because no team has mathematically secured any position, why should they be punished or rewarded based on the current standings?

At the same time, it's not voiding it so could be seen as a loophole for the TV money.

I think it's only fair that the man that has his club the most protected in regards to this pandemic in the whole of Scottish football gets to call the shots to be quite honest with you.

One chairman comes out and tries to promote equality between all and make sure the competition remains dignified - TRYING TO STOP UNITED WINNING THE LEAGUE. (newsflash : United still win the league.)

Your chairman comes out with a meek, shite the bed statement begging for cash and ending the season now as he hates Ian McCall - TRYING TO SUSTAIN AN EXCELLENT BUSINESS MODEL

Jeez Louise. Thicko.

They shouldn't be doing any work whilst furloughed.

Maintaining their fitness is not their core work task in the same way that checking your emails does not breach furlough either.

It’s remarkable that there are supposedly functioning adults who think that the opposite is the case.

You just need to look at the situation with Stranraer (2 wins all season), and Cove (22 wins/4 losses all season) to see that letting Stranraer stay a division above Cove isnt exactly sportingly fair.

How would it work with contracts? We seen with Kevin Nisbet last season that he had a clause in his contract meaning he could leave Raith if they didnt get promoted. Say Cove have that with Megginson, is it fair they lose their best player to that while 13 points clear at the top?

Nelms is the same as the rest, voting in his own interests (keeps fans onside/keeps derby games/give you higher prize money than most the league).

The Nelms proposal won't go anywhere, but it does have a virtue of consistency that much of the nonsense lacks.

If teams are to be allowed to be promoted on the back of current standing, then sides should also be allowed to be relegated on the same basis.  Those suggesting a reconstruction that only permits the first one, are attempting a more brutal assault on sporting integrity than either Nelms or Doncaster.

Its abundantly clear that this season can,t be finished on the park without crazy permutations running it into next season. The medical advice on the length of the lockdown along with the likes of the German sides returning to training suggest that next season has a chance of starting at a near normal time frame. That in my opinion is why they want this season called as it offers the quickest route back to normality. The 10th of June date further reinforces this.Clubs are clearly going to vote in their own best interests, that should surprise nobody.

It’s interesting the big different in mindset between Scotland and England, we are all about getting next season underway because of this tv deal of course. The SPFL are worried about any financial clausses I suspect.

Whereas England is all about let’s get this season done before worrying about next.

Have Cove won their league?

Have Stranraer been relegated?

After 77% of the season has been played, yes.

Is it fairer to punish Cove, and reward Stranraer, after we've played over three quarters of the season?

The correct answer is no. No Cove has not won its league.

It has only won its league when it is mathematically impossible for another team to catch it.

There are several ways it could become mathematically impossible for a team to be caught.

Among those include changing the rules in an unfair way as part of a package of reforms to end the season prematurely.

But that hasn't happened yet.

Cove has not won League 2. Stranraer has not been relegated.
