Coronavirus and the Scottish Championship

I can't see any reason why they wouldn't be. Although the "up to maximum of £2,500" per month will limit the amount of cover it will give the big clubs. It equates to a weekly wage of about £865.

It will almost certainly keep lower division clubs in business though.

Some of the young ones might actually start earning more.

I don't think you'll be allowed to increase their previous wages! That would be lunacy.

But lunacy seems to be the new normal, Skyline.  This is good news for smaller clubs like Queens, but on a general view, given that it sounds like the scheme has virtually zero checks on the veracity of claims, it must be a fraudster's wet dream.

Yes, 80% of your wages is definitely more.

Yeah, I read about it afterwards. 🤦‍♂️

80% is much more than I would have expected from the gov't in all honesty. I'm still waiting to hear if a few of us at my work will be 'repurposed' for ninewells or just let go.

I for one hope Raith Rovers will now be refunding all the donations that they guilt tripped after having literally zero home games so far affected by the shutdown and with the government now covering most of their bills anyway. Or they could donate them to a local food bank or health charity: organisations that need financial support far more than some two-bob football club right now.

Don't think that football is going to back to normality  in 3 months. There will be social restrictions in some form for about a year that means the championship is going to have to alter how it operates. Prob  means part time and playing in empty stadiums (bar those with a crono 19 +ve passport ?) and  televised to ticket holders. SFL really need to have alternative plans and start thinking about plan B.

Think it only applies to those on PAYE. If so the checks are there.

A real football club wouldn’t be misusing a public health emergency to panhandle for money it doesn’t actually need, but here we are.

Can assure you that all clubs will still need charity regardless of government intervention at the moment.  If somebody decides to help their club financially, it doesn't stop them from contributing to other charities at the same time.

Well yes it does, what with most people entering the financial insecurity of a massive economic crash and the straightforward opportunity cost of every donatable £1 to a football club being £1 that isn’t going to a more worthy cause.

Raith Rovers should therefore be handing back money that they don’t need right now to their donors or asking them to choose a suitable charity.  They can wait to get out the begging bowl until an appropriate time, which is not at the beginning of a public health emergency.

There will never be a time where a football club is of greater need than other more important causes like MND research etc but it's up to the individual how they spend their hard earned. Everybody who contibuted  would've been aware of thousands of better causes that their money could've gone to at the time the fund was set up

They weren't aware that the govenrment's business relief measures, guarantee of insurance and now employee wage guarantees would all bail out Scottish football clubs to a massive degree though. So the onus is now on panhandling football clubs like Raith to find their moral compass and hand over the funds to those who won't be getting massive additional support during this crisis.
