Season over

Least worst option I think is to finish this season when possible, and cancel cups if necessary. It's a tough call as most clubs are 2/3 of the way through their season, it feels like we are too far gone to cancel it, yet there's too many games left for it to be an easy decision.

More radical suggestion: arrange the fixtures in such a way so that promotion and relegation is decided as quickly as possible. Then either cancel the outstanding games, or play them when possible over the next year for the sake of completeness. No idea if this is really practical or not, just throwing it out there.

But what's the cut off point for a league like the EoS that has a half dozen or more applicants to introduce into their set up?

That could depend on the state of play in the relevant leagues the applicant clubs are coming from. If the ERJFA also decided to finish their season, no clubs would be sitting idle.

You can’t just void a season. ! It’s as simple as that ! Either it’s played to a finish and the delaying or scrapping of next season but you can’t just scrap a season with a couple of months to go and throw it away!
So many different issues with that being sponsors /season tickets/budgets/ contracts prepaid sponsors /licensing etc etc and the list goes on. Nothing of this is done for next season so the scrapping of that or delaying there is no issue. Either that promote who’s at top and no relegation. Means that the best team so far gets promoted and make leagues bigger with more to go down from leagues next season. Scrapping isn’t an option

Are you ok? That comes over as desperate. Scrapping next season is ok but scrapping this season isn't!

Anything is surely possible but no point getting exasperated at the moment. It will all become clear eventually.

Take it that view would change if Lithgie were top of the league

Banter or shit reply. 😉 WTF has Luthgy got to do with it. Anyway IMO we don’t have a next season till this current season has been decided.

Sorry I should have said till a decision has been on the current one. Which won’t be easy.

Never used the word cancel.

You can, and it is. The SOSFL was voided in 2001 because of foot and mouth, with the season being brought to a halt about the same time of year as now.

It may not be the option you prefer, but it's definitely an option.

There are several options - finish the league and re-jig next season to get back on track, void this season, play some sort of partial end to this season, take the leagues as they are. All have their pros and cons,  but all are options and reasonable people can reasonably disagree as to which is the least worst option.

The key difference with the SoSFL season is no promotion and relegation to worry about. Which is why this will run and run.

I imagine a lot of this is going to take on a top down approach. SPFL try and finish the season. The HL/LL are probably going to want to finish the season.

If this runs into September or october we would be aswell just continuing and writing off next season

Contracts expire 30th June.  There's upto 8 new clubs applying. It simply isn't practical to continue this season indefinitely and writing off next season.

Looking at the figues above you're looking at 9-10 weeks to completely finish the league season, scrapping cups. That is in addition to 3 or 4 weeks "pre-season". So maybe 3-4 months to complete the league season (not taking into account the weather).

Clubs need to start sorting player contracts and budgets for next season, and start raising revenue from ST sales and other ventures.

Players and coaches will also be wanting to go on holiday once the travel restrictions make it practical, as will referees and committee.

The PM said today they they hope to see the "tide turning" (ie the peak in cases heading downwards) in 12 weeks, that's mid June and that's just for things to begin to start looking better.

IMO we need to accept this season will not finish, and declare that on resumption of football (whenever that is) it will be 2020-2021.  Let's say by some miracle we can start pre-season end of June and start playing mid July, great, ease clubs gently back into the new season allowing for holidays etc. and get the new clubs on board.

However I think that is excepionally optimistic. Ian Maxwell doesn't think Scotland will be playing Israel in June.

What's important is that a solution for the SPFL isn't neccesarily the best for anyone else, a solution for the LL may not be best for the EoS.  EoS need to do what is best for their members.
