YassinMoutaouakil
I've been going through a quarter life crisis recently, and as a result, been relistening to a lot of MGMT. I think there's a pretty good argument to be made that they peaked with the very first song on Oracular Spectacular- Time To Pretend. It's imo one of the best pop songs of the 2000s and I can't really think of a better possible sonic or thematic introduction to the album. Got me thinking of other artists that kicked off their discographies with fucking bangers right from the get go. The Strokes- Is This It (Is This It) Joy Division- Disorder (Unknown Pleasures) The Wedding Present- Everyone Thinks He Looks Daft (George Best) The Killers- Jenny Was A Friend of Mine (Hot Fuss) Kanye West- We Don't Care (The College Dropout)
yoda
If there was a better opening track on an album last year than "Lark" from Angel Olsen's All Mirrors then (a) I didn't hear it, and (b) it doesn't exist.
