Is this weekend the last match we get to go to this season?

Recommended Posts

Both Guineas  (May)

York Dante meeting (May)

Oaks and Derby (June )

Wimbledon ( June/ July )

Open Golf ( July )

All the above sporting events have been cancelled

Does anyone actually believe that there will be the slightest chance that we will see any spectator sport before August at the earliest ?????

It has been suggested that FIFA might act to help the contract situation. If the transfer window isn't open then players can't move anyway.

How would that work if a players contract expires in May? He can walk away a free agent and sign for another club outside the transfer window, the transfer window idea only works for the biggest clubs who don’t deal much in free agents and will have most of their players on long term contracts. Hamilton have most of their squad out of contract in the summer you can’t force them to extend so what happens if they get decimated by departures?

These are all international events that require mass movements of people, and are being called off as a precaution. I'm not sure Motherwell v Killie fits into that same category.

But Old Firm home games fall into a similar category.

Do we only allow games that will be poorly attended...?

Thing about restarting the fitba for closed door games, it just takes one player/staff member to show symptoms and it's all on hold again.

This is the issue.

Until proper testing comes in the league cant continue/restart, as every time someone had a sniffle there would be isolation for the two clubs involved in his last game.

FIFA/UEFA can permit out of contract players to stay put and play - they can't require them to stay put and play. But where would all these free agents be going after May? Skint clubs who have had no cashflow for months are not suddenly going to be hoovering up dozens of free agents in order to play the last 8 games of the season, are they?

Because there are still 27 points to play for, if the boot was on the other foot then they'd do the same. Neil Lennon said last week that he wouldn't concede the league in similar circumstances.

Hopefully common sense allows the season to be completed,  even if that means a smaller number of games ne t season.

There were 27 points to play for since the January break and your players turned in a constant half-arsed effort. There is nothing to suggest there is even a very slim chance of there being a title challenge this season. Coronavirus timely intervention covering up a lot of failure at Rangers and hopefully will keep Gerrard in a job.

Capacities can be reduced or games can be played behind closed doors.

Do people think that there is a second race on earth, humans and football players? Playing behind doors or reduced capacities still means that players and fans would not be observing social distancing. Ah, but that’s ok because it’s football, and real life doesn’t come into it.

If players are due to leave at the end of May anyway, why wouldd they only want a month or 2 extension? If they get injured, which is highly more likely with a rushed end to the season, they lose out on a potential move to anyone else.

Also you have to factor in that lots of clubs will be losing a lot of players so there will be a demand to replace those players, even if cash is limited.

Just looking at this situation, the solution with the least amount of issues contractwise is to call it as it stands if the season cannot be completed by May 31st. Play past that then you get into legal battles that clubs cant afford. Null and void would then cause legal battles over performance pay, win bonuses etc as the entire season would technically not have happened. As it Stands has similar legal battles but they would be limited to the 8 remaining games.

Overall it is a train running towards the station with no breaks, and we will be crashing in some form or manner. I miss the days were we talked about potential top 6 spots.

That makes no sense at all, ok I get that you're trying to deflect but your post is a mess.

There will be roughly the same number of players and the same number of clubs. Clubs will get players and players will get clubs. As for the bonus etc monies, the clubs and the SPFL can dish that out if they choose. In fact, not to do so would be unfair.

Most of these events also use a lot of temporary structures that need weeks or months to be built and there is little point in doing this when there is no end date in sight.

This would be an amazing point if I was talking about restarting the season tomorrow, but it isn't because I'm not. At some point over the next while, social distancing will be relaxed and we will start to be encouraged to return to our work, and that will include footballers. At that stage, large gatherings may still be banned, but playing football won't be.

Whenever the lockdown is partially relaxed, as it will only happen it stages, the 2m apart rule and hand sanitising etc will still be in force and become part of everyday life for the rest of this year and maybe longer.
All the people who are classed as vulnerable will still be in lockdown, and masks etc will be everywhere.
There is also a very real chance that the full lockdown will return depending how the numbers go.
Would be aswell forgetting about football this year.

A possible bonus out of all this is the English Premiership (and ideally the champions league) financially implodes and money in football for wages returns to far more acceptable levels.

Fair enough. But I still think that some of the media reporting is being done as if the virus can't affect footballers.

All of this stuff has happened within the space of a month, therefore I am not convinced that anyone can accurately predict what we'll be doing in 4-8 months time. People are outlining the worst case scenario based on their predictions, but the truth is that nobody really knows what will happen going forward. If the illness can be properly contained and cheap and easy testing is introduced then we might see a completely different outcome to what people are predicting.

My point, consistently, has been that we shouldn't rush to make decisions now when we still don't really know what the future will look like. It would do nobody any harm to wait and see what happens rather than jumping into a decision whilst we're in the midst of the crisis.
