Is this weekend the last match we get to go to this season?

The SPFL and Celtic taking on uefa or is the daily record just filling some space with a non story?

The SPFL are ready to call UEFA’s bluff by sticking to their guns and declaring Celtic as Premiership champs.

League bosses have reacted with ‘anger and bemusement’ to threats from Nyon to complete the domestic season - or else.

Confusion reigns after UEFA warned the smaller nations their clubs’ participation in the Champions League and Europa League next season is in jeopardy if they call their titles prematurely on the back of the Covid-19 crisis

However, that is not a stance the SPFL are willing to adopt as they forge on with plans to call the season as soon as their legal advice allows, rightfully handing Celtic the title and relegating Hearts.

The single fairest outcome for the 2019/20 season (seeing as not a single further game will be played) is to call the league as it is, but give the teams with a game in hand an "average points" boost to their final standings.  Sure, it would push Hibs down to a 7th placed finish, but in the interest of sporting integrity it is a sacrifice we are willing to make.  Celtic to be declared as Champions and Heart of Midlothian relegated.

It seems pretty obvious that we'll finish this season this year then play a summer season next year.

Euro 2021 is next year.

By the time this season is finished it could be October/November. Then the new season would need to last about 6 months (including is it 8 Scotland games?)

To say that is ambitious would be putting it lightly.

Our league structure would make it very easy to adjust next season to whatever length we wanted.

Play each other twice = 22 games
Play each other twice + usual split = 27 games
Play each other twice + H/A after split = 32 games
Play each other three times = 33 games

Might be we restart this season on Friday 12 March 21 with Well v Dons.
Just a thought. emoji848.png

Not a good thought as there wouldn't be enough clubs left in Scotland to have a league.

According to the record, Rangers, Hearts and a few other teams are planning legal against the Spfl. Aberdeen are grudgingly backing celtic to get the title and champions league spot.

Rangers and Hearts could lead legal revolt if Celtic crowned champions and Jambos relegated
UEFA have warned if leagues call the season over their future European qualification will be under threat.
Rangers and Hearts could lead a legal revolt against the SPFL if they defy UEFA’s orders and end the season now

UEFA chief Aleksander Ceferin has made it clear that if leagues decide to finish the season prematurely, their future European qualification will be in jeopardy.

But SPFL bosses are set to defy UEFA’s directive and go against Ceferin’s wishes with Aberdeen chief Dave Cormack last night admitting the coronavirus “hurricane” leaves them with no option

The SPFL are keen to give clubs clarity amidst the Covid-19 crisis by calling a halt to the campaign, with Celtic being crowned
Premiership champions and Hearts relegated

But it’s understood that could open the floodgates to potential claims against the governing bodies.

MailSport understands Rangers, Hearts and others see a clear but unjust legal route to take and will lobby fellow SPFL clubs who would be adversely affected by the decision to join them.

Rangers, along with other clubs, believe UEFA’s decision is definitive and enhances the likelihood of claims against the league and its directors.

As far as I can tell there is no need to call the season at all during April.

Wishful thinking maybe but if the peak hits around mid April as forecast and we start to see a decline then there will be a better view of what the future looks like.  If there is a realistic chance we can get back on the pitch in June then why call it now.

if however we get to end of April and it looks as if lockdown will not be ending anytime soon then make a decision.

I may be an internal optimist but I think lockdown will be relaxed in May to an extent and depending on how that goes then sporting events allowed in June / July.  Of course the obvious threat is Covid 19 cases simply ramp up again. Who knows.....

I think it’s already been said re-starting in June wouldn’t work for Scotland as Scottish players contracts expire and loans are returned on the 31st of May. Clubs can’t force an extra month on to players that’d be like you working your notice at a job then being told “Oh no you’ve to work another 4 weeks notice before you can leave.”

So it’s either declared how it is, called null and void, or it restarts much later I.e mid/late July giving clubs time to sign new players and have a mini pre season. If that happened the Betfred Group stages or the full competition would need to be scraped for a season.

I would have thought it would be preferable to complete the season and scrap the league cup for one season. If it is really necessary to have the league cup, then have it in the second half of a truncated season e.g. no split or 2 rounds of fixtures and then the split.

I know there will be the issue of contracts running out but I'm sure the majority of players would agree to extend for a month unless they've signed a PCA.

There's no easy answer and it's going to be the least of umpteen evils.

Not sure why Sevco are against declaring the season as it is?

A 2 week winter break decimated their form, imagine how shite they will be after a pandemic break for a few months. Lucky to remain 2nd.

Because there are still 27 points to play for, if the boot was on the other foot then they'd do the same. Neil Lennon said last week that he wouldn't concede the league in similar circumstances.

Hopefully common sense allows the season to be completed,  even if that means a smaller number of games ne t season.

It has been suggested that FIFA might act to help the contract situation. If the transfer window isn't open then players can't move anyway.

A suggestion like this involving blatant restraint of trade won't be the most unrealistic one to be put forward today

Which shows what a tangled shitshow this ist

Transfer windows could be considered a restraint of trade to begin with, but of course players are welcome to sign for whichever clubs they want to outside this period - they just can't be registered to play.

So the world is going to hell in a handcart, people's lives are a stake, we are looking at serious restrictions across the board and for months to come and the sporting element of football is a bit irrelevant now (clearly jobs/wages are important) and this is the time that Rangers and Hearts feel like they want to flex their legal muscle? Seriously? F&#k off!

Okay. If it is their decision alone, then logic and self-interest would suggest the board members' preferences should be :-

Rangers          1)  Void it.    2) Play it out.   3) Declare as stands.

Motherwell     1) Declare as stands.   2) Play it out.   3) Void it.

Accies             1)  Void it.  2) Declare it as stands (not incl play offs).  3) Play it out (incl play offs).

Dunfermline   1) Play it out (incl play offs).  2) Void it.   3) Declare it as stands.

Ayr                     1=)  Play it out (incl play offs)     1=)  Declare as stands (but incl play offs).    3) Void it.

Brechin             1) Void it.   2) Declare as stands   3) Play it out incl play offs.

So I would expect only Motherwell to be clear cut supporters of declaring it as it stands. They get Europa, Celtic are champs. Hearts are down. Possibly Ayr too, but they need  to argue for the illogicality of wanting it called now but then hopefully have play offs squeezed in sometime. I would expect Rangers and Brechin (adrift at the bottom) to die in a ditch for voiding it. Accies should logically too - it means survival  in the top flight - whenever that can restart. But then again, they might go for the option that offers them the longest odds bet at a Nigerian branch of Ladbrokes. Dunfermline should want the chance to play and try to overtake Ayr.

So, unless stupidity or unexpectedly large and immediate money incentives sway votes a different way, null and void it is. No?

Edit: If Motherwell are now getting paid the prize money anyway for being 3rd, then they probably lose the motivation to argue (alone) for declaring it as it stands.

A fair bit of water has flown under the bridge in the last 3 weeks but the above still makes sense. Except for a big omission - forgot about Doncaster (CEO no vot)? Murdoch MacLennan in the chair (votes if tied)? and the non-Exec Karyn McCluskey. You might suppose that at least one of those 3 will be mindful of the Celtic view.
