Aside from the planning aspect, scientific evidence suggests that banning mass gatherings won’t have a significant impact on slowing the growth of the virus. The risk is that front-line ambulance/health staff might be pulled away from more urgent tasks to attend football games. These front-line staff aren’t stretched at the moment. This season we have 4 teams in a relegation battle, and could potentially have a 9th v 12th, 10th v 11th type showdown, all on the final day at the same time, with all four needing to win to guarantee safety. They might be next week of course, hence the notice period.If it's to help HCWs as opposed to the spread of the virus (although I'm sure the latter will still have some part to play) then that makes complete sense. I am/was just worried that we're being allowed to go to games this weekend just because they're quite close. Why you so raging about it? How do you do that if its not clear who'll be safe when the fixtures are scheduled? What if, at the first matchday after the split, they could still go down but get scheduled to have that gameweek off?
