Especially at this level were it isn't their main source of income. It seems to be passing quickly amongst players due to all the physical contact, dressing rooms etc. Can't see them been happy to increase their chance of getting then having to self isolate for two weeks and take time off work. Agree it just seems to be presumed that players will not get the virus, if one of the squad has then the rest of the squad are taken out, think Everton have found that today. The other thing is if the season is just cancelled now how do players contracts stand, how could most clubs afford to honour 2 months wages without any income when the league does start again it could look very different with teams having folded.

No team is going to sign players if they don’t know when the season starts so you’ll have hundreds of lower league players out of contract with no income. How can you sell next years season tickets if you’ve no idea when it’ll start. I fear a few clubs could be facing financial ruin if this drags on and that’s not just the small clubs. And there's likely a big indirect effect as well - if this is happening in football, it'll happen to hundreds of other businesses all over the country. Folk losing freelance work, small businesses unable to trade at all, people on statutory sick pay rather than their usual wage, even people lucky enough to be getting their basic wage will be missing out on commission and bonuses - and all of this likely lasting for several months. Even assuming - and let's hope and pray that it's so - that the number of people losing their lives is quite low, a lot of folk won't be able to spend a few hundred pounds from a significantly reduced income for the year on a season ticket come the autumn, or take out sponsorship for a player. A lot of small and medium local businesses, assuming they manage to keep their heads above water as trade grinds to a virtual halt for a few months (and this is before any Brexit trade restrictions come in, of course) won't be able to justify sponsoring games, match-day hospitality trips, adverts in the programme etc. Clubs - as all businesses - can be looking at significantly reduced revenue even once the immediate crises passes. And that's to say nothing of those who rent out their pitch, function rooms at their stadium etc. As a side note, how many grounds have we all be to where the toilets have at best cold water in the taps, and no soap at all? Big Fifer
That's the EFL and PL suspended. Suspect we're going to be the same.
Thereisalight..
A worrying time for small clubs who potentially have 2 months of no match day revenue coming in. Will teams like Stranraer who very rarely get a 500 crowd continue to play in front of fans?

Junior Pub League
Will ScotGov bow to the bigots and put them ahead of the elderly and the ill or do they have the balls to call it off? Cancellation is the only option here, you cant make any coherent argument for putting 50000 people in one place at the moment.
Big Fifer
Just now, renton said: You'd think so. Wonder if they will still let this weekend's games go ahead... I'd be astonished if so. Although the bigot-fest over here might make them keep it on, which is absurd on about 6 different levels.

AndyDD
I suppose they will have long ago already set up emergency service cover for the events this weekend, though, including the rangers v celtic game on Sunday. Since the science doesn't indicate that the outdoor gatherings are particularly bad for spreading the virus, they are looking at the next couple of weeks onwards when thinking about the need to free up emergency service personnel. We'll see, though; one would expect this to develop further as the day goes on. Hope they give the Aberdeen fans enough notice if they do call off the game tonight, or shut the doors.

I don't buy this "outdoor gatherings are not so bad" argument one little bit. It isn't just the fact you have 50,000 ugly sisters fans gathering in one place, it's the travelling from all over the country and beyond and milling around before and after game, using toilets at the ground, which are probably not that hygienic, queueing for pies etc. Like the other mass gatherings at Cheltenham, Europa League, Champions League, rugby, these events can only be viewed as opportunities for unchecked virus transmission. The experts argue that the social and economic cost of cancelling these is too high. That isn't a scientific judgement, it is an economic one. These events taking place will undoubtedly have led to the virus being spread more widely.
