Peterhead vs Raith Rovers

Recommended Posts

We need a much better, more motivated performance than last Saturday's. Enough of the pointless, pedantic possession and let's see much more passing & movement.

Let the other lot worry about what we are doing to them.

We can't stumble along this final quarter and hope that picking up another 16/17 points will see us over the line.

20 points this quarter is the bare minimum I think we should be aiming for if we want to win the league, which means that there's not much room for draws against teams in the bottom half of the table. If we drop points against the likes of Peterhead and Clyde then winning all our home games this quarter is essential.

Think this is a must win, I can’t see Falkirk dropping points at Dumbarton. They have a more favourable first half of the quarter where I don’t see them dropping many points so we really need to hang in there to take advantage of their more tricky looking end to the quarter.

Our record away to the teams in the bottom half has been well covered. 2 wins all season, a stodgy 1-0 at Dumbarton on the opening day and a last minute win at Forfar. In our last 5 games away to teams in the bottom half of the table we have managed 3 points (3 draws and 2 defeats) that record has to end this weekend with victory.

Munro was fine on Saturday took an excellent catch the last 10-15 minutes and didn’t have any real problems aside from some miscommunications with Bene which were eventually dealt with okay. Shame he couldn’t get a confidence boosting clean sheet. We’ll need a big game from him here, David McCracken started the season as a coach at Peterhead so he will have made them well aware to test Munro out with cross balls.

We’re at the stage of the season where performances and style of football are irrelevant just win please Rovers, a shitfested 1-0 win would be fantastic. Peterhead look to have a big game at Stranraer the Tuesday after this so if McInally wants to keep his best players fit for that, that would be braw...

There is no chance of Raith not winning this match. Peterhead were very poor on Saturday

Both Raith and Falkirk need to do  better in Q4 than Q2

Falkirk lost at home to Airdrie and Clyde and drew away to East Fife and Dumbarton and home to Raith only won 4 from 9, 15 points from 27.

If results were the same in Q4 as Q2 Airdrie would win the league.

Draw is a disaster if Falkirk win. Means they would be at least 5 clear after the cup game in all likelihood.

We absolutely must match or better their result.

Nail absolutely clattered on the heid. Peter's or any others.😉

Cup final or not, it's becoming to be more of a distraction and interference as the league games run out with not being able to play games at same time as nearest challenger in order  to match or better their score on the day. More pressure on getting a result from the outstanding midweek game (in my opinion) than if played on the Saturday.

Keeping possession is far from pointless when it's being used to draw defensive minded teams out.

The amount of idiots in our support who would rather we just punted the ball into the mixer rather than keep the ball and try to break teams down is depressingly unsurprising.

Forfar sat with 11 men behind the ball on Saturday even after going a goal down. We didn't play well but we were never in any danger of losing that game. If your not going two up top and launching balls into the box constantly, some people can't handle it.

So the two options are hoofball  or passing sideways &  back until generally the keeper has to launch it because he is being closed down. I am suggesting that our players either take the ball forward themselves or do a pass to our midfield.

Our players look far better when taking opponents on. Most teams in this league don't cope with much pressure.

It's better to lose the ball occasionally playing positively than this zero paced yawn option. I don't mind 1-0 wins but  with a back 4 , our defence does not inspire confidence eg Saturday's late clownish concession.

We were absolutely annihilated with injuries and suspensions in Q2 to be fair. I'd really hope we did much better.

This.

Thankfully we are in a far stronger position than in Q2.

Would have been interesting to see where we would be currently had we not been decimated by injuries for so long. However, it is what it is, onward  and, hopefully, upwards!!

That's what we do, that's how we play. Yes teams can chase and close us down when we play it around at the back but the goals we lose aren't usually down to this.

The goals we score, however, are in the main exactly down to playing it patiently from the back.

Beat the team 3rd bottom and you win the league?
Potentially,  that's a pretty bold statement.
With teeth attached .......

Explain..?

There’s talk of the league seasons being cancelled on Monday. therefore, winning this will ensure we stay top going into whatever decision they came up with next week.

It would be peak Rovers to lose or tie and fall behind Falkirk just before the SFA shut down the season.
