Why pick out individuals ?  That was just an embarrassing team performance  full stop.

He stood out as the worst although maybe Ollie and Strachan get pass marks.

Mostly all shite tho.

Add McCabe to that too, absolute rank despite his dads best efforts to big him up to be something he's clearly not!

Is it time to get rid of wilson in one last throw of the dice to get a miracle worker in who might be able to keep us up?

And who's going to fund yet another managerial layoff?

Don't think it would change anything, last thing we need is yet more upheaval.

Wilson ain't the issue at the club there are bigger deeper issues at boardroom level it seems just wondering if it's worth considering bringing in somone else

And who's going to fund yet another material layoff?

Cant blame wilson for this mess theres only one man to blame and thats Barry Smith most of the decent players we had offered to stay at the end of the season chose to leave because of him. He should have been punted at the start of the season. Wilson has improved the team but he can only use the players we have. Changing manager would be pointless and it's too late for that

I've a horrible feeling City have had their chips. :(

Any team finding themselves down bottom league 2 are staring down the barrel

Every year there's some Highland/lowland league outfit looking well capable

Well, that's what the pyramid is for.

If you look at the English pyramid it works pretty well and teams that have dropped out of the league have been able to get back into the league (Tranmere, Grimsby, Oxford). Often it is better for clubs who struggle in the bottom of the English leagues to go into the non league structure and become bigger fish in a smaller pond. A good example this season is Barrow who dropped out of the football league nearly 50 years ago and are now on the brink of getting back in with bigger crowds than they ever achieved as a football league club. They didn't disappear.I know it's different north of the border but as long as the Highland league and the Lowland league continue to develop as serious feeder leagues into the SPFL then I don't see why a well run club such as Brechin cannot be successful in the non league game and one day get back into the SPFL if the worst happens this season.

The following EFL clubs have left the FL since relegation to the National League (ex conference) was introduced in 1987

Lincoln City (since returned, twice, after being relegated, twice; now in League One); Newport Co (bankrupt; successor club back in L2 after 24 years in non league); Darlington (relegated, returned after a year, relegated again later, bankrupt, successor club in NL North); Chester City (relegated, promoted, relegated again, bankrupt, successor club in NL North); Aldershot (bankrupt and record expunged, successor club returned, relegated back to National league); Halifax Town (relegated, insolvent, re-formed at Step 8, back now in National League as FC Halifax), Scarborough (another bankrupt, re-formed, now in NPL Premier), Rushden & Diamonds (bankrupt, re-formed, now in Southern League Premier), Grimsby Town (back in L2 after 5-6 years n the conference), Carlisle (returned after 2 seasons and went as high as League One playoffs a while back) Barnet (relegated three times, promoted twice), Macclesfield (promoted again recently but perennially insolvent and a relegation waiting to happen),

In the NL Hartlepool, Stockport (back after a five year spell in NL North), Wrexham, Chesterfield, Notts County, Dagenham & Redbridge, Torquay (after one year in NL South), Yeovil are all ex-FL camels trying to fit through the eye of a needle. Wrexham, Chesterfield, Dagenham are all in danger of a further relegation this season to the regional leagues.

Kidderminster Harriers, Boston United, Southport and York City  are ex-FL clubs in NL North, currently; Bradford (Park Avenue), Gateshead and Hereford FC also as  successor clubs to defunct ex-FL outfits.

Workington AFC have fallen the farthest, currently four promotions away from League Two, in the Evostick Division One North West league. They look likely to win that league under Danny Grainger's management however and are pulling in crowds of 4-500 at present.

The point of all this is that a route back to league football is very, very far from certain; Lincoln, and the re-formed Accrington and Wimbledon, are the most successful stories. Carlisle would have been a good example, too, until recent travails back in League Two.

Of course in Scotland Shire and Berwick haven't really troubled the promotion race over-much. Shire have flattered to deceive in their seasons in the Lowland League and Berwick are a total shambles.

Bizarre to use Barrow as an example when they were ejected via failed re-election in 1972, long before anyone thought of the conference.

Best of luck to Brechin City. It looks certain that they will be facing either Brora or Kelty now. I agree that Mark Wilson has made the best of a very tough hand but some sort of momentum and improvement is desperately required before the big games in May. Wednesday's night's home match with a half hearted Annan side is a must win for City as they attempt to find some form.

Good post.

Is it not the case that quite a few of those  EFL clubs mentioned are full time and stayed full time in their time in lower leagues ?  Possibly why quite a lot of them went bankrupt.  Even with the money kicking about down there , it is similar to Scotland in that the up and coming ( and ambitious  ) new guys seem to be the ones getting the money pumped into them rather than the old faithfulls.  Possibly investors are sensing the complacency of the tired older clubs.

This seems to be the case in Scotland and definitely needs to be addressed if clubs like ours are to avoid going to the wall completely.

Think it’s just a teams luck if they are fortunate enough to have a serious investor/investors willing to put money in which most will never see again , you look at Ashley at Newcastle and he gets slagged to death but he’s a business man who’s kept them in the top league and mainly out of debt , fans just want brilliant footy and silverware but unfortunately our £7 at the gate don’t cut it

Thanks!

Of the clubs I know about, Stockport were part time during their spell in NL North and even now are on a “hybrid” model with a mix of full and part timers. All the ex FL clubs currently in NL North are part time with the exception of York.

All the ex FL clubs at step 5 (National League) are full time. Eastleigh, Fylde and Bromley of the “new” clubs have wealthy backers. Barrow were part time for decades until taken over by a wealthy American.

Few of the old FL clubs died purely because of paying wages they couldn’t sustain. To cut complex stories short, deaths were a mixture of shyster / crook owners (Darlo, Hereford, Chester, Scarborough), sugar daddy got bored and sold to shysters (Rushden & D) perennial insolvency (Aldershot, Newport Co, who also “benefitted” from a crook Walter Mitty chairman), local apathy, decades of no success and huge debts (Halifax), malign local council plus apathy (Bradford PA), hugely unjust failure to be re-elected followed by apathy and entropy (Gateshead).

Always felt that was a disgrace, even if it was before my time.
