zenon
With another cluster of EOS clubs getting licenced awarding Scottish Cup entry every year without having to win a certain trophy, does the Alex Jack Cup have a long term future? There will be hardly any unlicensed clubs to sustain its viability if this trend continues.

By comparison the 2017-18 Edition was contested by 7 teams. 6 teams in a first round, with Leith Athletic entering in the semi finals. It really only needs to fill a handful of weeks while the majority of members are tied up with competing in the Scottish Cup. Having a slot in the South & East of Scotland Cup-Winners' Shield (for place in the Scottish Cup) is only a relatively modern feature of the Alex Jack Cup... For almost 30yrs it ticked along in quite happy fashion providing the smaller clubs with an opportunity to reach a cup final and win a trophy - plus giving those clubs not in the Scottish Cup a competition to play on Scottish Cup dates. Whilst there are now 21 licensed clubs, it still means there are 18 unlicensed clubs (before adding any new members). Of those perhaps a handful are working toward licences, some are at an early stage, and many not actively underway. If anything the cup is returning to type: most clubs will again be those smaller teams who more rarely get a share of limelight.
