Who's making the play-offs?

Recommended Posts

Arbroath 13th in top flight in 1973/74 were part time. Montrose 3rd in second flight in 1975/76 which was 13th in Scotland. There must have been a part time team in top flight since then, surely!!

I know they would be considered full-time overall but did Raith have anyone apart from McGurn in 2011 when they finished 2nd?

We were running with the hybrid model we have reverted to this season. McGurn and Mark Campbell were definitely part time, can’t remember the others in the squad but there were a couple more. We probably only had 4/5 part timers in total so definitely still considered full time overall.

The ratio was skewed more towards part time the previous season where we got to the Scottish Cup semi final but only finished 7th in the league.

Ayr were part time in the first season of the premier league the only team out of the 10.

Are there any other teams ( besides Arbroath and Alloa ) in the Championship who have not yet been in the  (new) Premier League ?

If Arbroath make the play offs it would be an incredible achievement - but they would be there on merit .

Next 10 - 11 games will decide the winners and losers.

United are rank average at best, in terrible form, yet are running away with the title.

Pars are an extremely flawed side with a maximum of two good players and we might end up in the top four.

It’s an abysmal standard, as it has been for several years. It’s usually competitive but the quality levels are embarrassingly poor at times. Getting charged £20+ to watch games at this level is bordering on criminal.

Morton aint been in the top flight since the 80s

Do you mean in its current state as a 12 team league? If so, then Morton, QoS and Ayr all haven't.

Just checked the table again there. A win for us tonight should pretty much quell any lingering fears of relegation or finishing second bottom. This would also put pressure on teams currently above us. Drawing with absolute gash like QoS and losing games like we did against ICT is what is costing us being up with ICT just now and fighting for 2nd. We are shit, with 3 exceptional players for this division, at best, yet we have an excellent chance of getting a play-off spot.

Think every team will have their hard luck stories. Had DU, Alloa and Inverness not scored  injury time goals against us recently, we would be 5 points better off and sitting in the playoffs.

Likewise Arbroath will feel they should have held on against us on Sat.

Interestingly,  8 of the last 10 games in this league have been draws. Very little between teams. Wouldn't be surprised if there was a few more tonight.

From Morton's perspective, as long as Thistle and Queen don't win, it' will be an ok night for us. Still have slim hopes of the playoffs, but  the dropped points recently have dented those hopes and with games running out, we would need to win 4/5 of our last games to stand a chance and for other results to go our way.

As long as we are safe with 3/4 games to go, I think most Morton fans would take that considering we were 9th and  2 points off bottom after 18 games!

In the end, if you're not in the play off places at the end of the season your team wasn't good enough. League tables work pretty good that way.

No one can claim to predict what will happen between now and then. Danny Devine could become a goal machine and fire us to 2nd place.

Caley grabbed themselves a much needed win over the league's whipping boys to regain their form and stay clear of the rest of the pack.

Dundee with a huge win over Ayr, which sees the Dark Blues pip the Honest Men for third. Nobody can score against us right now, especially not Ayr, who can't seem to score at all right now.

Dunfermline manage to squander a lead over the bottom team in the league to drop what could've been 2 crucial points for their play-off push.

Here's the table:

We look on to Friday and Saturday:

Ayr get little time to recoup before taking a trip down to Dumfries on Friday night. For Mark Kerr's side, it's important they take advantage of their struggling opponent like ICT did tonight to continue their fight for 2nd.

On Saturday, Caley travel south to Arbroath in what could be a tough game for the pack leaders, given the Lichties' strong record against them this season. With a couple games in hand, an Arbroath win, would see them very well. A win for Inverness meanwhile would be great for maintaining their perch.

Dundee, 6 games unbeaten and 5 without conceding, take on Dunfermline, the last team to have beaten them and a team who themselves are in a decent unbeaten run too, albeit dropping 2 points tonight dents that a bit. Games between these two this season have been pretty wild, so should be a good spectacle.

Morton quite frankly need to win this game at home to United. The gap isn't insurmountable by any stretch, but it's certainly widening. A win for the Ton over the formless league leaders would do their charge the world of good.

I was still confident of picking up decent points even without Nisbet and Dow. That is no longer the case, we are atrocious without them.

"decent unbeaten run" No...honestly, no. Its a crap unbeaten run, they exist trust me.

I was more thinking in terms of length. 3 straight draws including tonight's debacle does sound pretty shite, I grant you.

Inverness and Dundee will definitely be included now. The other one looks completely up for grabs though, with Arbroath increasingly well placed to make a run at it now.

I disagree that we need to beat Dundee United: we probably need 9 points or more from our next five games to stay in contention before our easier run-in comes round though. Both Dunfermline and Partick away later in the month are two better opportunities to get the required wins than Saturday’s game but I think we’ll get 4-5 points and be officially ruled out soon.

Almost could convince yourself there was a race for the title if it finished up that way.

I'd bet my life on Arbroath clinching it honestly.

Nobody will be making the play-offs - they'll let Utd go up and whoever comes down will come down.  Which for us Dees would be the usual scenario when in this league - one bite at they cherry only!
