“Clubs like Auchinleck Talbot”. Who else is like them?

It’s also fair to say that the assumptions being made that the inevitability is dependant on SFL2 teams not reacting to what’s happening. QP, Elgin and Stirling have all toughened up. Other than Brechin (who were in the Championship a few years ago), Albion Rovers and Cowdenbeath I’d say the rest will be hard to displace.

Cowden were almost in the promotion playoffs last season. What are you blabbering about? Any, yes,any team can have a bad season.

Eternal debt. No stadium or assets. Ever decreasing talent pool in the area. You tumbled out the championship, straight through L1 and then two seasons in L2 finishing 10th and surviving the relegation play-offs. So four really bad seasons in a row. Then a modest sixth the year after and last season fourth. You were on a slide when the league got wrapped up. QP, Stirling and Elgin would all have been above Cowdenbeath last year had it gone it’s length. Deny it all you want friend, unless something spectacular happens with your finances Cowdenbeath will remain on the trapdoor short list. And if Kelty get promotion this year you’ve probably got two more years to get it sorted, at the most.

When is the draw for next round guys

Dundonald Bluebell’s home tie against Queen's Park is scheduled to take place on Monday night and will be screened live on BBC Scotland. The match kicks off at 7.45pm with the draw for the second round due to take place beforehand at 7.15pm.

The draw can be also be viewed on the Scottish Cup YouTube channel and Facebook page.

There will be 20 second round matches taking place with teams from the SPFL Championship, including Hearts, and League One entering for the first time.

The ties will be played over the weekend of January 9 and 10 with the Premiership sides due to enter at the third round stage.

For this season only there are no replays which mean games that end in a draw after 90 minutes will go to extra-time and penalties if required.

Cowdenbeath had been sitting in third place for a large part of the season.  Elgin went above them by beating them with a late winner in the last game to be played.

Cowdenbeath still had a game in hand against a poor Albion Rovers.  Winning that game in hand would have put them 8 clear of Stirling with 8 games to play (and also back above Elgin depending on when it was scheduled)

Elgin and Queens both still had to travel to Central Park when the season was curtailed as well.

Not sure the facts back up your assertions about the league placings last season.

Both Cowden (one win in seven before the end) and Edin City were starting to tail off.  I'd have fancied us in the play offs against either.

My assertions are based on the trend of what was happening, endorsed by actually watching all the teams mentioned. Cowdenbeath were on the slide.

Where is that quote from, the BBC or the SFA? Including the line "including Hearts" is typical of the former although it wouldn't be a huge shock if it was the latter.

Pollok, Cumnock, Beith, Kilwinning, Irvine Meadow XI, Hurlford, Glenafton... it's been very difficult for these clubs to get into the Scottish Cup because they have to get past Talbot to qualify. I've seen enough of them in recent years to say they're very comfortably better than the Brechin side I saw on Saturday.

You're right of course, the threat of relegation has motivated a few L2 clubs to improve, which is another benefit of it. We're entering some interesting times.
