2020/2021 Scottish Cup

Biggest tournament since Victorian times - excepting last season - gets underway this Saturday with a pair of preliminary ties.

Penicuik v Musselburgh looks delicately-poised. LTHV are overwhelming favourites to dispatch St Cuthbert Wanderers.

Except for modern Finals and Semi-Finals... these are the first Scottish Cup ties since the Fuel Crisis of 1947 which cannot go to a replay.

FT LTHV 1-1 St Cuthbert - no replay, into extra-time

FT AET Penicuik Athletic 2-3 Musselburgh Athletic (FT 2-2)

Hammer-n-tongs early-doors.

Musselburgh better both 2nd halfs though Penicuik rallied late in each. Some red cards late-on. Classic cup-tie.

Glasgow Uni v Linlithgow will probably be Friday or Sunday as Airdrie are at home.

According to Linlithgow's thread it's Sunday 13th December.

All rest should be Saturday 12th.

Looks like no TV game - perhaps BBC will show 2 ties in subsequent round.

Probably the BBC haven’t noticed yet that the tournament is under way...

Possibly 😆.

They've already got a Championship game on Fri 11th. They can't show a Fri in next round as it's Christmas Day... could go Boxing Day or Sun 27th? Doubt will show 3 in R2 (old R3).

This season, as well as no replays, for opening 4 rounds (i.e. Nov 28th / Dec 12th / 26th / Jan 9th) clubs must initially retry a postponed tie in midweek before getting another Saturday, i.e.:
- 2nd attempt on midweek immediately following
- 3rd on attempt on Saturday
- 4th attempt on Monday/Tuesday
- 5th attempt on Wednesday

e.g. Saturday 12th December >> Tuesday/Wednesday 15th/16th >> Saturday 19th >> Monday/Tuesday 21st/22nd >> Wednesday 23rd

Musselburgh will be hoping weather proves good at Wick... if not they'll be hoping it remains bad for another 3-4 days!

Forecast not looking good for Wick and other places as well, constant rain from tonight.

Edit: whoops, getting ahead of myself, the games are of course next weekend.

Interesting example of the manifold oddities this season is throwing-up.

Clachnacuddin will enter their tie with 0 competitive games under their belts... Caledonian Braves will have 12.

Nairn will also have 0... Threave will have 8.

Lossiemouth will have 1... LTHV will have 11.

Wick will have 2... Musselburgh will have 11.

Inverurie will have 3... East Stirlingshire will have 12. Rothes will have 3... Newtongrange will have 12.

Deveronvale will have 3... Camelon will have 10. Huntly will have 3... Dalbeattie will have 10.

Banks o'Dee will have 4 ... Vale of Leithen will have 12. (BoD did also contest a 5-game "friendly league").

All of next weekend's ties confirmed for 3pm, except Hill of Beath v Whitehill and Preston v Hawick (2:30pm - traditional EOS time); Dundonald v Easthouses (1:30pm - defective lights); and Jeanfield v Stirling Uni (12:30pm - not clear why unless it's typo for 2:30pm on SFA website).

Due to Airdrie clash Glasgow Uni v Linlithgow is Sunday at unusual time of 4pm.
