Queens are going down. This was by far and away the worst performance that I've seen since the McPherson era. No heart, no fight.

Queens were almost as shite at Cappielow a few weeks ago yet we ended up a bit fortunate to get a point against them by the end. We wiped the floor with them this time round. That difference within a few weeks was mostly down to Morton producing an excellent, organised midfield without the ball, a pressing shape whenever their shite defenders got on the ball and the superior quality of Cadden, Nesbitt etc. making the difference in the final third this time round. While we weren’t up against much, it was a huge improvement on recent home performances and probably our most impressive all-round display of the season. The challenge is to reproduce that level of performance at Inverness midweek to get a positive result.

Nobody expected a Hopkin side to earn plaudits for free flowing football but the way in which our table-topping form since Christmas has been written off as a fluke from some fundamentally ‘shite’ team in the league is bizarre. Based on today’s level of performance and our current form we can easily finish in the promotion playoffs as the second top scorers in the division. There’s absolutely nothing shite about that prospect, despite the lack of any feel good, tippy tappy, passing philosophy drivel being displayed every week.

In Johnston's interview, he displays the wrong sort of resignation.

"Apart from the 4 goals I didn't think there was much between the sides". Not only is that statement wrong but does he think such a comment will bring any sort of comfort to our support? We could have had 40 shots on target yesterday to Morton's 1 and if we failed to score I really wouldn't care about the chances we created. We're at the stage where we need goals and points ffs.

It's not just that the statement provides no comfort, given that we need points.

It's also that it's wildly, deludedly inaccurate.  There were miles between the sides.

and why was Mercer started when not fully fit, same as Murray last week and why replace Mercer.a defender with Petravicious, a forward who had a mare against Dundee.  We had defenders Ledger and Gourlay on the bench. Beggars belief those management decisions

Dobbie won the toss and chose to play the first half going into the wind.

It's always good to see optimism amongst the support, especially from an unexpected source, but let's not get carried away here.

While Ayr and Dundee can still realistically chase second place, from our perspective it's a race for 3rd or 4th place against those two plus Dunfermline and Arbroath.   If it were a straightforward race to the finish then based on our recent and current form then yes, I'd say we have a great chance, but unfortunately it's a race with a staggered start, and we're the team starting at the back.  Ayr are 3 points and Dundee 1 point ahead of Morton and each have 2 games in hand, while Dunfermline and Arbroath are both1 point behind us with respectively1 game  and 2 games in hand.

Morton only have 10 games so play, so have very little room to drop points if we are to finish 3rd or 4th. The good thing is that we have to play all of the other 4 teams - if, IF we can manage better than 9 points from those games we could be in a much stronger position.. However, as all those teams also have to play each other then there will be a lot of positional changes to come as the weeks go by - for example, had Dundee v Arbroath gone ahead yesterday then one or both of them would be in a better position relative to us, and should we lose at Inverness on Tuesday then our prospects won't look nearly as good.

Those games in hand for the rest could be crucial as to where we finish as we're bound to drop points along the way, but we've got ourselves into a good position and if we can keep the recent form and momentum up and draw a few less games then there's certainly a chance of the playoffs. We won't "easily" finish there by any stretch, but there's a chance.

If that is the case that was a bad decision. We need to start games better, put pressure on opposition and get ahead. I still wouldn't be confident of winning a match until the game is over so shaky and deep is our midfield and defenders
