Difficult enough keeping most folks' attention away from the bigoted arsecheeks in most small Scottish towns, let alone Glasgow itself. Will be interesting to see how QP changes now semi-pro status has been embraced and the move is coming. Hopefully will be a better atmosphere in a smaller ground.

Not good for the QP players. They’ll have to take a pay cut!

If you look at the attendance figures compared to the town/city population, Cowden are actually better supported than people might think. Of course, our location doesn't help matters. Too many bigger teams nearby.

Not including the Edinburgh/Aberdeen/Glasgow teams here's 3rd division clubs attendances as a percentage of population for those that care

Brechin: 5.5%
Stenny: 5%
Annan: 4.4%
Cowden: 2.6%
Elgin: 2.5%
Stirling: 1.5%
Albion Rovers: 0.6%

No idea how this compares to clubs aiming to come up the way but it looks like Cowden's support is about average for a town of their size.

What community do Queens Park represent out of interest?

The one that they're slap bang in the middle of.

Like almost every non-league club then?

Cowdenbeath are the SPFL team closest to where I stay , they represent the community of the town of Cowdenbeath (population of 14,000) I suppose. The fact that their last six league attendances have been 307,312,312, 382, 328 suggests that overwhelming majority of that community don't give a flying **** about that football team.
Albion Rovers representing the community of Coatbridge ? They are struggling to get 300 to go to their games despite the town having a population of over 40,000

How do these attendances compare to most "community clubs" in the lowlands league?

Looking at the attendances thread, many struggle to get into three figures. Screenshot_20200304_095837.jpeg

That'll change over time with the arrival of more teams underneath the Lowland League who will bring a stronger level of attendance with them. I think we'll find that the numbers will level out at much of a muchness with some occasional exceptions. Flapping about plus or minus 50 here or there is pretty pointless.

Exactly. It’s pointless.

Like Kelty 😉

Yes. Although it's harder when you are not doing so well and the entrance fee is close to double what a Lowland League team charges.

Good luck to Kelty. I think you will need some.

Scottish League Two clubs could be allowed to choose which division they play in if they are relegated from the SPFL, under proposals being considered.

Currently, demoted teams are be placed in the Highland or Lowland League depending on whether they are located north or south of the River Tay.

That means clubs based in Angus would be relegated in to the Highland League.

But talks are talking place over scrapping that geographical boundary and clubs nominating a preference.

Each League Two club would have to confirm their choice in the early stages of a season.

Brechin City are seven points adrift at the foot of the bottom tier, and face a play-off against the winners of either the Highland or Lowland League, but it is unclear if the plans would come into play this term.

The last thing that's needed is yet further imbalance between the bulk of teams in the Lowland area and a smaller number of teams in the Highland area. If Brechin go down they'll need to adapt their squad rather than paying through the nose for diddies from Edinburgh.

Ordinarily I'd like to see a team like Brechin do well. Especially given what they've been serving up their fans the past few years. But obviously there's been some lobbying in the background going on here, in an effort to change the rules to suit themselves. Pretty poor stuff.

They're called Brechin City and they play in Brechin. Brechin is north of the Tay

'Talks are taking place' is the classic non-headline for crap journalism though. There are always 'talks taking place' in Scottish football: mind when SPL2; Colt teams in the seaside leagues; ra joonyurs waltzing into the pyramid and about 17 other schemes were being portrayed as 'done deals' just because some blazers got together and had a meeting about it?

In the absence of all parties being of the same mind nothing actually gets done. And given that the only club that could be kicking up a fuss can be safely emptied into the HL in two months' time, it strikes me as a token gesture.

That all said, I look forward to a post-administration (mk. II) Greenock Morton successfully applying for membership of the Highland and North Caledonian Leagues.

Ludicrous idea. Either the boundaries are changed or the stay as they are and clubs deal with that. If clubs can pick and choose then what's the point of regionalisation at all. I wouldn't mind a small corridor of uncertainty type thing where clubs a few miles either side of the boundary, like Tayport, can choose but not Brechin.

In a few years time say the LL is filled up with bigger ex-junior clubs, and the teuchters have stopped pumping money into diddy clubs like Brora, a club like Cowdenbeath could just say 'f**k it, let's go into the HL and win it cos it's filled with shite rather than going into the LL and struggling'.

Spot on.

It reeks of establishmentism. The pyramid is fresh and getting better with each passing year. Progressive clubs, seeking to play at as a high a level as they can  (Bonnyrigg,  Kelty, etc etc (even Cove and Edinburgh C before them)) and have never been in the top leagues, have well and truly bought in to the concept - yet this feels like a helping hand to the clubs who have long been part of the top leagues in the country.

Correct.

As far as every Brechin City supporter is concerned  they will be going into the Highland League as it stands.  We are not aware of any imminent changes and it would be foolish,  if not immoral,   to think that any such change would be implemented this season purely to suit Brechin City.

If there is any lobbying going on , it  wouldn't and shouldn't  be on behalf of one club .  It would  and should be on a majority  basis to suit  a majority of clubs .
