OK so I missed the first half but the 2nd 45 was more enjoyable than the 90 minutes at Ibrox today. How do you develop young blokes who are technically strong but can't quite make the first XI in the Premiership? Bear in mind that a lot of of these players will end up in the Championship or League 1. There's two fairly simple answers to that: 1. Loan players out. 2. The Old Firm stop hoovering up any boy who looks like he has a 0.01% chance of turning into a half decent player.

Rob1885
Well done ICT, doing us proud despite some questionable officiating to say the least.

The fortunes of wee Kelly with you and McPake with Dundee confirm this. A much better approach is to have loans AND a way in which players from decent academies can be tested. That our Colts got to the semi final is a justification of the process. -
TheScarf
The Caley were the first semi decent team the colts played though. They basically got to the semi final by default. Playing a bunch of Welsh and North Irish painters and students isn't proof that the colts have their place in this cup and in the league system.

peternapper
Many of the teams that this competition should be a good diversion away from league games have no interest in taking part since the colts etc were introduced, in the earlier rounds this year a number of teams even from the Lowland & Highland league were dropping 6 or7 first team players as the competition has been devalued so much. Should be for league teams from Championship down to LL & HFL & forget the rest. Edited February 16, 2020 by peternapper
Comrie
Hope there's plenty of raging Invernesians who'd rather support Rangers than Caley in the Keg tonight.

TheScarf
I was getting my hair cut at lunch time today and the guy in the chair next to me was from a Rangers fan from Nairn going to the game. And yes, he was fat.

I would be saying exactly the same whether it be Rangers, Celtic or anybody else. Some folk are happy to celebrate young boys losing a game - simply because they're Old Firm players - than question how or admit that a team sitting second in the Championship just got the runaround from a squad of 18 year old laddies.
GNU_Linux
The number of highland etc loyal glory hunters in the away end was depressing. The dystopian future that awaits the smaller clubs up & down the country if OF colts ever get into the league system. Hopeful they won't as SPFL clubs have voted down their numerous attempts prior.

Inverness True Blues even managed to run at least one bus down to Ibrox as well today so the away crowd was not as large as it should have been.

People are happy that Rangers colts got papped out for reasons discussed oh so many times on here but it would be the same it is Rangers, Celtic, Aberdeen or any other colt side. They are universally unpopular even more so the suggestions of colt sides in the league. Some of the Rangers youngsters are clearly good if not better players than a lot of the ICT team but they also are on better money than a lot of our guys and we could never dream of getting them in whilst they are still with Rangers. ICT picking up casts offs like McCart and selling them on is what we need to do to try and keep us even remotely sustainable.

True or not they, as I said, didn't look out of place. It's also a feature of players of this age that there's a massive difference between, say, aged 16 and aged 21. So, for example, Danny Finlayson looked a world beater when he was 16 but today (at 19) he looked fairly ordinary. Kai Kennedy, though, looks like he will light up any team he plays for. Hopefully us. 44 minutes ago, RiG said: Is Dele the Dundee equivalent of MJC? @Deleand @MJCare two fairly honest blokes whose only commonality is that they don't automatically hate The Rangers. craigkillie
It was the biggest game of those young boys' career, so they were obviously going to raise their game against superior opposition. Ultimately the quality shone through, even with 10 men.
