Peterhead - Loons

The last time  one was called off after about 20mins of play was against Annan, that day the keeper kicking into the wind  struggled to clear his box with kick & the ball was constantly blowing away while trying to take corners/freekicks. Did not mind too much that day as was in hospitality so got a second go at it for nothing when the game was replayed. Did not know that the Hearties had a game on today or would have nipped down & got the end of it, their ground is a bit lower down in town but shows football in Peterhead was possible today. Strange that the only senior game  was ours going by reports  plenty other places  managed to complete games in  poor conditions.. Wonder how we will get on when winter

Raemoss and Barclay are level with Morrisons.

Should've built the supermarket where Balmoor Stadium is, and left us in Recreation Park!

Totally agree, as the stadium is built on probably the highest location in Peterhead and brutally exposed to the SE winds which are prevalent. In saying that, we probably wouldn't be where we are just now as the Rec was dilapidated and had no facilities whatsoever.

Perhaps the wisest people yesterday were the Peterhead Schools Football Association, who postponed their games on the adjacent astro-turf pitches on FRIDAY evening - take note SPFL.

Yes don't think there would have been too many complaints if it had been called off  in time to avoid travel & all preparations  to host the game, it would have been interesting if one of the teams had taken the lead if would have put the ref under more pressure to carry on as it was 0-0 at the time it made it easier for him to abandon it. Apart from Wick which was called off Friday night all games in  the cup, league Highland & Lowland leagues started & were completed  yesterday apart from ours.

Fleming seemed to be the only person complaining about the weather to the ref, yet there looks like he had made no attempt to dig a hole to keep the ball on the spot, the spot was immaculate when we walked past after it was called off.

Expecting players to dig holes in pitches to make conditions playable?

Have a word with yourself

Watched the Clyde game today... it must have been horrendous at Peterhead yesterday if the wind was worse than  what I witnessed on TV.

I was expecting a lot more games to be called off this past Saturday but the great majority of games (at various levels) in the North East went ahead.

A better example was the Glasgow v Hibs game. Alloa is more open and akin to Balmoor than is Broadwood.

A few seasons ago we had a game at Peterhead called off due to the wind  less than  an hour before kick off with both teams getting prepared for their warm up .

We were in the social club when the decision was made  so didn't see the process the ref used to determine whether or not it was playable . Those who did witness it said it was comical with the ref and linesmen trying to kick the ball feebly against the wind and throwing the ball in the air to each other like a game of donkey.     They seemingly refused the offer of help from the goalies who said they would take goal kicks to see how the wind affected things.   By all accounts both teams were happy to give it a go  , but in all likelihood it would have been abandoned  at some point anyway if it had started ,  as the ref seemed to be in that mindset.

Ironically that day , there was a game going ahead on the plastic pitch at the same time but seemingly it was abandoned not long after they realised the main game was called off.

Funnily though , nobody in the social club seemed too bothered  when game off was announced  .  They just  just ordered up more drink .

Funny story in todays paper, Alan Cook said  he had played in much worse conditions as while taking a corner at Gayfield once he was hit by a wave  😮

The corner flags were blowing but still upright.  Calling a game off at Peterhead when they are at any angle less than 55 degrees is going to cause us a massive pile-up of fixtures.  Hope these types of decisions doesn't become the norm and don't even get me started on the "safety" reason.
