Latest non Chinese figures with Iran storming up the rankings with some fine play from the Qom mullahs. Nowhere near the capitalist cruisers as yet though.

Seems a bit strange that some countries only have one case of a highly contagious virus.

The timing of the outbreak may be a factor there. So close to New year a lot of business travel traffic would be lighter, while for New Year an increase in holiday traffic. and hence why popular destinations for Chinese around this time: Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia are more infected than areas that are less so.

Particularly where people may have been staying with relatives in closer proximity.

In Singapore they publish a great deal of information that is enlightening. Of the 80+ infections, they are grouped in five main clusters, two smaller clusters, then just a handful of currently undetected clusters.

In each of the clusters it is where people are spending a great deal of time in close proximity to each other. The cruise ship another area of close proximity.

This would also make it more difficult to control in more highly densely populated areas more common in Asia than elsewhere.

There are actually very few cases in Singapore from hotels. So where an infected Chinese national overseas is staying with family members and traveling regular on public transport in a dense urban area as opposed to being more isolated in a hotel room and less frequent on more spare public transport (Europe), may also be a factor.

There is also the fact that some countries data may be poor or ignored.

I think Iran have already made a c*** of it. And if any city in Korea can f*** things up it will be Daegu (I lived there many years ago). Italy also making a late effort to get in the placings.
The numbers in China would have been well down today if they hadn't discovered 500 cases across 3 prisons. Just one new case each on Beijing and Shanghai.

Still surprised about the rise in South Korea and Japan, but then again maybe shouldn’t be.

Looking at Singapore and their efforts to control, I would have expected that South Korea and Japan would be somewhat similar in approach. However, it is much easier to mobilise and effect a solution when you are a city state, whereas in the likes of South Korea and Japan and Wuhan/China you are reliant on the local councils effecting contingency plans and some have really screwed it up is seems.

There were unofficial reports of Iran having the virus weeks ago and expect them to be following the Hubei play book on this.

You could expect the prison infections to jump in China. I have been expecting a huge cluster out break in Xinjiang as well. ;-)
