I have said this with our healthboard as well. It’s all fine and well, getting the army in to get people to hospital quicker, but that is no use to anyone when they arrive there and there isn’t enough beds for folk.

They could shoot the bed blockers.

I think the whole sick pay system needs legislation but that’s not a topic for here.

It is relevant when you have the right wing press using Covid as an excuse to push against SSP and Trade Unions.

It's the type of narrative several posters on here consistently buy into.  For some of them I think it's unwitting, but that's no great defence.

Anecdotally, there does seem to be a much bigger delay in getting PCR results now. I'm part of the ONS survey which means that someone comes once a month, asks a few questions about your potential exposure - how many people you've been in close contact with, how often you've been socialising etc - and then takes a swab for a PCR test.
They came out and did the test on Monday and I didn't get my result until today. Obviously because mine is routine I don't need to isolate, but it would be incredibly frustrating to be stuck in the house for four days waiting for a result to come back if you were a close contact or whatever.
My sister in law had to go for a PCR on Tuesday, git the result on Wednesday. Don't know if it is taking longer in different areas.

I had to get a PCR over the Christmas break back in Inverness after being identified as a "close contact". Results were back in a little over 16 hours. Pretty impressive.

That's not true.

You just need to have self assessment submissions which cover the required period.

Of course, the lower the earnings you declare, the lower the grant but the grants are still accessible without having a tax bill.

Yeah you are correct I didn't word that very well.

YET !!!

BBC News - No need for a fourth Covid jab yet, say UK advisers
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-59915560
Further jags are fine but they should be boosters for those who need / want them.

There's no reason for society to be put on hold again while we wait on fit and healthy 20-somethings to get a 4th jag.

I can see 4th Jags required for all late spring/early summer, after that it’ll convert to annual jags for all over 50, or underlying health issues.

And yet, I told you where I stood on this matter quite explicitly when you asked for what I thought, just last week.  Indeed, I listed what I thought on the wider debate and you welcomed it.

Surely, you don't need to post stupid misrepresentations on here do you?  I hadn't seen that as your style at all.

Fair enough, my specific post may have been out of order. But your general approach on this thread has been to target the posters and not the content.

I doubt there will be any need as cases and hospitalisations will be very low in spring and summer as pretty much everyone encounters Omicron in the next couple of months, on top of existing vaccination. Boosters should then be offered to the same groups that are eligible for an annual flu jag in the autumn.

Omicron is basically a natural 4th dose in itself. By this time next month the vast majority of us will have had 3 doses plus one natural infection (mainly omicron, although plenty had the previous variants too)

There should be absolutely no need for a widespread 4th dose campaign. Only the elderly and vulnerable IMO.

I see Warwick are now projecting Omicron is around 10% as severe as delta.

So to go back to JL's mewling a few days ago about how 10,000 cases a day would produce 50 hospitalisations, then, based on his own calculations, the reality is it would take around 25,000 per day to generate that number - a completely unsustainable level (and likely higher than the peak will be).

The only thing that's going to put any pressure on the NHS now is the number of staff they have sitting at home for 7 days who, without sticking a cotton bud up their nose daily, would be working.
