Coronavirus (COVID-19)

The dentist on Channel 4 News trying to shift the goalposts yet again with some utter deranged nonsense about the need to 'protect national infrastructure, like supermarkets as well'.

It's now society's responsibility to stop Linda from the Gibby getting a glorified cold and not making her shift in Tesco.

We now know 3 doses of a vaccine are highly effective against symptomatic omicron (and presumably even more effective against severe disease). All the reports are that it is very mild for the vast majority of people.

Why on earth then do we have the first minister focusing yet again on hospitality and Christmas parties rather than doing everything possible to get boosters in arms?

I tried to book a booster today but everywhere I looked there were no available time slots. I think I'll just turn up at one of the places and ask them to fit me in. I'll then be 75% safe from new virus variant.

World and it’s dog will have been booking slots in the last few days because of the fear mongering.  No surprise there’s no slots.

Father in law phoned and said he didnt want to go to a gig with my partner because Omicron. We laughed at him after he hung up , but it makes me wonder if people are thinking 'if we shouldn't go to Xmas parties than what are we doing going to gigs/theatres/cinema'. It makes sense to think like that since whats the difference between a Christmas and birthday party?

You are more likely to get tracked on a work night out or a party where you know people.

We also now have several effective antiviral treatments, for which the government should be scaling up availability instead of holding guilt trip media briefings. But they are only delivering to the extremely clinically vulnerable right now - so their whole mask/other restrictions guilt trip can get in the sea - while merely holding clinical trials for other vulnerable groups as well.

If they want to seriously stop hospitalisations, they can start firing those out like Skittles instead and ask questions later. It is not the job of the rest of society to sit on its hands for the sake of the medical community's latest box-ticking exercise.

I saw the dentist on the telly this morning wearing scrubs and vaccinating people saying he'd be getting his family to take tests before coming round for christmas because he thinks it's a small price to pay

I've not seen him for a while but you forget how awful that voice is.

Genuinely mental. Considering there isnt a single person admitted to a hospital in scotland because of omicron. They are absolutely overreaching here. Whats even more worrying is that they dont seem to have said that they will quickly roll this back when its proven to be a mild version. Scandalous imo.

I don’t know why folk are getting their knickers in a knot. Personally, especially at this time of year, I have no desire to spend time in the company of people I don’t like, who annoy the shite out of me, get on my tits, and after an hour or so, make me want to never see them again… but enough about St Mirren v Hibs tomorrow, roll on my Christmas party.

I'm sure she must have done, but I can't remember her even mentioning boosters or advising people to get them during the briefing. She spent most of it building up to to her big moment of advising people to not spend money in businesses she can't afford to shut herself. Which had been trailed the previous day.

Well I was in town earlier and it was rammed. A steadfast two finger salute to these cretins.

Embra was fairly busy last night as well and the roads are absolutely hoaching.

Also, if this scariant is actually as easily transmitted as the bed wetters imply, surely we're going to be absolutely goosed in a matter of weeks no matter what we do. Otherwise err, it's not going to be much of an issue.

Exactly.

If we are in total crisis by January we will know for a fact that governments are deliberately lying for nefarious reasons.

With the levels of protection against severe disease and the new treatments including pills which can be taken before hospital treatment then surely they should be going for herd immunity? You’ve got a decent chunk including the older and clinically vulnerable pfizered out their tits, young people quite provenly not being hospitalised and kids over 12 vaccinated. That coupled with the scientifically proven treatments is completely baffling me as to why they are shitting the bed here. Further to that they have had 2 years to build NHS capacity and the like and failed to effectively do that.

We again have young people missing out on life affirming occasion’s and socialisation etc, i’ve seen an increase in young people hurting themselves or needing mental health intervention. ive seen people take their lives because they cant see a way out of the mess this has caused their lives, losing jobs, homes, relationships breaking down, domestic abuse increasing, significant financial problems, some have asked for help but repeatedly ignored ‘because covid’, all the while the millionaires who chum about with the snp and tories rake the money in like its going out of fashion.

This aspect is only going to get worse if we have pubs laying off parents before christmas due to them going bust or being unable to pay the wages etc. Its fucking palpable for Sturgeon to stand up there and do this without offering support,  knowing the impact she is going to cause and not giving a f**k. Its ok though cos when those kids lose their homes or a parent or a stable loving environment because of this shite then they’ll get a free bike and reminder of just how much Nicola fucking cared. Just get it all so far to f**k. This shite is unbearable anymore.
