Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Recommended Posts

Most people would be fine with voluntary annual boosters for the vulnerable, but they can GTF with mandatory boosters for everyone under threat of house arrest, termination of employment and fines.

Which of the two scenarios seems most likely at the moment?

Significant numbers on all sides of the discussion on covid are only in it for the money. There are also large number who love the ego boost that comes with being known names as a result of whatever the f**k they are doing.

Lowest numbers since early September (ICU dipped briefly below 50 in mid-October)

There's yer Germans also excluding people from non-essential society if you haven't been vaccinated or recently recovered.

"Culture and leisure nationwide will be open only to those who have been vaccinated or recovered," Merkel says

They are clearly doing it to drive up vaccination rates but this is a terrible way to do so.

The government owning up to large numbers of people presenting with myocarditis and pericarditis post vaccination. Will the media cover it?

The link above says that in 2017 the estimated number of cases of myocarditis in the UK were roughly 2000 total. The Pfizer vaccination has resulted in a case of myocarditis in 1 per 100,000 doses. Moderna 3.6 per 100,000. This is only with 10 days of vaccination and there is no data provided to identify at risk age groups.

It's also given handy cover for all sorts of organisations (public and private) to scale back services or user privileges because the big, bad pandemic made us do it. See Scotrail's alcohol ban.

The media seem to be all over the weekly Number 10 parties, will be scenes if Laura K went along to a few and didn't feel the need to report the fact the Covid rules were being broken whilst £10k fines were being dished out to students.

Some medics have already started shifting the goalposts to 'the pressure of administering extra vaccines'.

Heard that one this morning. Some bedwetter on Radio Scotland saying the NHS will be under immense pressure to meet the January target as many people who were doing the vaccines earlier in the year have gone back to their other work.

Convenient excuse to stop non emergency procedures again.

Why do you give the per capita rates crossed with the total number rather than keeping both in the same format to allow means for comparison?

Myocarditis and pericarditis are both inflammatory conditions of the heart. The incidence of myocarditis is difficult to ascertain as most cases are mild and are often not well investigated. In one study from the UK, it was estimated that between 1998 and 2017, there were 36.5 per 100,000 NHS admissions with myocarditis, with the numbers increasing each year since 2004. In 2017, it was estimated that there were about 2,000 hospital admissions for myocarditis.

Easy answer is to increase spending on the NHS, rather than creating longer term problems by kicking the can down the road on all the things that have been and will be cancelled. It's almost like the approach they are taking is designed to garner criticism.

"Large numbers" was a curious choice of words too.

That isn't an easy answer though.  Can't magic up trained staff out of thin air.
