Do you think they knew nothing about this until it was announced today?

They were still having meetings in Westminster today about it, that's why the usual Wednesday or Thursday announcement was delayed. No doubt they knew the train of thought, but not the outcome.

Mewling about their earnest desire to maintain a four nations approach while choosing to diverge from the rest of the UK because 'reckless Tooooarieees!' is a full-blown minter for the SG.
It's absolutely embarrassing - I understand the Scottish Government might want to do things differently but when it comes to international travel you just can't do what they are doing.

Your constant defence of everything SG say and do is cringey.

They're going to take a few days to decide, which is different from saying they're sticking with it.

“A UK Government decision to implement proposals to remove the requirement for a pre-departure test in England and to use lateral flow tests on day two have not been adopted at this stage in Scotland due to significant concerns at the impact on public health.

The testing of international travellers, both before and after travel, is an important part of our border health surveillance to minimise the risk of importing variants of concern.”

No suggestion of that in the official communication.

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2021/sep/17/no-10-accused-of-sidelining-behaviour-experts-on-latest-covid-measures

Quote

Prof Robert West, a behavioural scientist at University College London who participates in Sage’s behavioural science subgroup, SPI-B, said that while the committee had not been formally stood down, he had the “strong impression it is no longer functioning”. “The sense I have is that there’s just no interest in evidence or science on the behavioural side,” he said.

That'll probably be because the  'behavioural side' turned out to be a bunch of utter fucking psychos intent on 'nudging' society to their own, OCD vision of normality.

Quote

Prof Susan Michie, the director of the Centre for Behaviour Change at University College London and another SPI-B participant, said: “Sage and many others are predicting rising rates of Covid and other respiratory viruses and serious NHS pressures, and there is considerable uncertainty [about] the scale of the problems we are going to see over the winter. Sage has pointed out that what happens will depend to a considerable extent on people’s behaviour.

“Now is not the time to lose independent behavioural scientific advice to government, whether or not they choose to use it.”

This would be the same SAGE that predicted cases would double to a minimum of 100,000 per day when their beloved face coverings and distancing were launched into the bin in England two months ago - with 200,000 being their ballpark figure. Instead cases dropped by one-third!

No wonder all these clowns are getting shunted out the door then. Useless, knicker-wetting freaks.

Again, the Simps literally told us this morning that the Scottish Government would not be pulling this pathetic nonsense regarding international travel.

Can we get a statement from them, please?

I imagine the bosses at Scottish airports are not amused at all right now.

This just forces passengers to go to airports in the North of England.

Fucking crazy.

Already looking at changing my November break to Newcastle.

Bizarrely amongst the thousands who will change airport I’m sure there will be plenty SNP fan boys, but they’ll defend the Scottish measures all the same like massive fucking hypocrites.

On their behalf.  Nicola is always right, reckless tories,  SG keeping us safe ad nauseam.

I'll be the first to admit that I've been defensive of the Scottish Government in the past - but with domestic vaccine passports, and now this nonsense, I am quite frankly, pissed off.

The authoritarian streak within the SNP is going to be their downfall if they are not careful.

No punches pulled from Edinburgh Airport:

Never thought it would be possible for me to despise the Scottish Government this much, but here we are.

Again. It literally says in their published statement at 18:17 this evening that they are.

“A UK Government decision to implement proposals to remove the requirement for a pre-departure test in England and to use lateral flow tests on day two have not been adopted at this stage in Scotland due to significant concerns at the impact on public health.

That statement does not give any comfort.

They knew this was happening days ago yet haven't decided yet - complete nonsense.

If they can make a decision on the removal of amber lists then surely they should have decided about testing at the same time.

It smacks of tokenism - trying to be different for the sake of it.

It just makes them look stupid when they do the inevitable u-turn.

The Scottish Government have literally released the following statement, you clown:

Quote

The Scottish Government said the current amber list restrictions, where fully-vaccinated passengers do not have to self-isolate on their return, would become the default for passengers from non-red list countries.

But it said: “A UK Government decision to implement proposals to remove the requirement for a pre-departure test in England and to use lateral flow tests on day two have not been adopted at this stage in Scotland due to significant concerns at the impact on public health.

“The testing of international travellers, both before and after travel, is an important part of our border health surveillance to minimise the risk of importing variants of concern.

“The Scottish Government aims to maintain a four-nations approach to international travel restrictions, but will need to carefully consider the risks associated with aligning with the UK Government.”

Transport Secretary Michael Matheson said: “We have concerns that the UK Government’s proposals to remove the requirement for a pre-departure test for some travellers will weaken our ability to protect the public health of Scotland’s communities.

"While we want to maintain a four-nations approach to these matters, we need to consider urgently their implications.”
