Know someone who is in this situation just now and is being treated in hospital due to other underlying health conditions. I don't think so anymore. It used to be "confirmed or suspected covid" but that changed last summer.
TheScarf
I think now it's 'has had Covid in their life and is in hospital for something totally unrelated to a respiratory virus'.

For me it's little more than arse covering. There is nothing to suggest they have any impact in the real world, but also nothing to suggest they cause any harm. Much easier to put nothing on the line by continuing to advise they are useful, than stick your head above the parapet. A scientist who stated they were useless would be vilified in the event they were wrong, whilst one who suggested they were useful would be left alone if they were shown to be of no help at all. As for the public, for many, you have to remember, a mask is no more than a minor inconvenience that needs to be worn for the short time they are in a shop or walking to their table in a restaurant. Doing so allows them to feel good about how much of a caring person they are by protecting others, whilst simultaneously pointing out how horrified they are by the selfish people at the football etc who aren't wearing one. They aren't being made to wear them all day every day, and don't give a second thought about those who do have to. The same people tend to find the idea of their kids having to wear one at school abhorrent without any sense of irony.

ICTChris
There's been a story in the media of a prominent anti-vaccine activist who contracted Covid, became seriously ill and died. From his hospital bed he recanted and said he wished he'd had the vaccine. Some of those who campaigned alongisde him against the vaccine are now saying that he was a crisis actor. There are some genuinely deranged people going about.

The Daily Mail is full of stories like this Anti-vaxxer musician who appeared in ITV's Bad Lads' Army dies from Covid in hospital aged 40, leaving a pregnant wife behind and after saying he couldn't get ill because he exercised five times a week 'She died alone and her last memories were of sheer terror': Nurse reveals her anti-vaxxer mother, 57, died of Covid at the very hospital where she works on the vaccine rollout Covid wipes out anti-vaxxer family: Son loses father, 73, mother, 65, and brother, 40, to virus within a week of family meal after they refused the jab The best bit about these articles is the Russian bots doing the comments BTL.

Proof that vaccine passports are a waste of time. Of course vaccine passports are a waste of time. I don’t believe in any society that has to show medical status to get places domestically, but if they’re going down this route then proof or negative test is more sensible. I know there’s been a few festivals down south which required either/or, but TRNSMT is needing negative test for entry which makes more sense...if only those going weren’t able to screenshot the negative proof and send it to all their mates...or not even take a test at all. Pure theatre and being shown to care to appease the likes of the SG, JL and the lovejoys
BigDoddyKane
I was checking the difference between amber and green countries for coming to UK and theres no difference as far as I can see in whats required its same 2 tests shite, is that likely to change soon?

In the Top Trumps of viruses, real world evidence trumps academic papers but not apparently in this case. I've given up trying to persuade people now. Between the mask obsessives and the ivermectin/scamdemic nutters it's just too much effort. There's just too much noise and too many people pretending they have the faintest idea what the hell they are talking about. Time will win this particular argument. By the way, Twitter is a hell-hole. Lasted 2 weeks on there and deleted my account. This place looks sane by comparison. Quite simply: We have clear cut evidence at the population level of how effective the vaccines are, as was shown in clinical trials. Where is the same evidence for masks? There may be some experimental evidence that in the right circumstances etc they could be beneficial, but that simply doesn't exist 'in the real world'. Additionally, if as mentioned they give people a false sense of security in terms of getting closer to people, then that is not helpful. They also perpetuate fear and are a reminder of where we were, not where we now are. They are the single biggest psychological factor determining when people have moved on. 2 hours ago, Todd_is_God said: For me it's little more than arse covering. The same people tend to find the idea of their kids having to wear one at school abhorrent without any sense of irony. As much as I think they should be gone completely, at least there would be some logical cohesion if Scotland done the same as Wales, i.e. required in shops and on public transport, but not required in hospitality settings. The expectation/dictat from the Scottish Government, which some places will still try to get you to comply to, of wearing a mask until you are seated, or when going to the toilet etc, is simply the most laughable nonsense of the entire pandemic. It's not the actions of a grown-up government.

Basically the only difference is fully vaxxed folk can go to 'amber-list' countries. If the testing gubbins doesn't change soon then the Scottish and UK recovery in aviation, tourism and the wider economy will continue to lag behind the EU. Depends how long Tory mates think they can keep their licenses to print money, and how long diddy administrations like the Scottish Government continue to endorse it by default.
