Coronavirus (COVID-19)

The Scottish Government could have been a leader too, but instead it decided to be children and act like baldies fighting over a bottle of shampoo - fostering fear, hysteria and theatre measures that we will be lucky to see the end of by next summer.

Meanwhile, in a grown-up place that a future independent Scotland is supposed to aspire to:

I hope The Simps are ashamed.

The ones who feed into anti vaxx narratives are the ones who downplay the effectiveness of the vaccines - Devi lied about them and said they don’t work against Delta.

The vaccines are incredible. The issue we have is that the political decision making doesn’t give due faith to them. Trust in the vaccines and let them do the work..

The vaccines are incredible, but their benefit to the younger age groups is marginal. That's because despite all the media frenzy about enormous fatties wheezing their way into an ICU ward, Covid was never significantly harmful in young and healthy people to begin with. If Delta can be transmitted by the vaccinated without them having any serious illness then the societal benefit of vaccination is zero as well.

The only reason why vaccines should be offered to those groups is as a token of thanks for giving up 18 months on behalf of those who were at serious risk. When it comes round to booster jags, we will hopefully start to treat Covid rationally and limit free vaccination to vulnerable groups. Just as we do for the flu every year.

An insistence on 100% vaccination is just a rehashed version of the zero Covid fantasy. It's time for individuals to manage their own risk and for society to move along.

How about you do your bit for public health by losing a chin or two first, then we can talk. Boomers are vile.

GP calls for unvaccinated travel ban as cases rise in Wales

Dr Mair Williams says people should be encouraged to get both jabs

Holiday travel bans should be considered for the unvaccinated if coronavirus cases continue to rise in Wales, one GP is recommending.

No changes are being made to Wales' Covid restrictions in the latest review today, while Covid cases in Wales are currently at their highest since January.

Wales' first minister Mark Drakeford earlier urged people to protect communities and get vaccinated to stop the virus spreading, warning the "public health position is worse than it was three weeks ago".

But Dr Mair Williams says rules are needed to encourage people to get a Covid jab.

Almost all restrictions to daily life were lifted after Wales was placed under Alert Level Zero on 7 August, with official social distancing laws scrapped and limits on who can meet coming to an end.

Dr Williams, who works at a practice in Skewen, Neath Port Talbot, says people not getting vaccinated is "the biggest problem" and the only way to bring down case rates is to "restrict" what unvaccinated people do.

"They cannot go to pubs and restaurants with other people," says Dr Williams.

"And they cannot go on holiday because of the risk of infection and also maybe not go into the workplace as well - to work at home.

"I think you have to do that to stop this virus spreading any further."

479 in hospital

Jesus

I mentioned this the other day, but it's unaceptable that we don't know how many of those 479 are in hospital for treatment of Covid, and how many have tested positive but are in for and receiving treatment for something else.

Sturgeon knows this is an endemic and we just needs to ride out the latest spike.

The weirdo journalists desperate for another lockdown so they can work from home again can fuck off.

I quite like this knicker wetter swatting version of NS.

The SG's quiet flip-flopping over face masks in colleges (not required this term; then this week oh aye you must wear them everywhere again) indicates that at least some knickers are still being drenched behind the scenes right now.

The limiting factor is that if Westminster holds the current line then there's very little that the SG can do that won't tank businesses and make them extremely unpopular.

Agreed, but it does seem like bigger jumps than the last wave though. Like you’d have 20 or so during that previous surge. Today was 53. She did say there was a backlog though.

I would assume it’s fair to imagine the majority are in for covid reasons only given the jump up we are seeing but it would be good to see a breakdown to see the vaccine effect but I guess ultimately they still need to have them isolated if they have covid but are in for a hip op as opposed to having any covid symptoms.
