As has been said, pandemics tend to come to an end socially before anything else, which is where we're at now.

Restrictions become guidelines and personal responsibility/risk management become the norm.

Unis and other places trying to be seen to fight it is basically just for show.

Trouble with that is that as long as there are still nail biters, nose pickers and folk who are too ignorant to wash their hands even after going to the bog - before handing you a pint - too many people are not 'personally responsible'.  Maybe one benefit of the covid experience will be that some will have changed their personal hygiene habits, but given folks stupidity levels even in the pre-vaccine/high infection days, that's probably optimistic.

Can you nip along to Holyrood and tell NS that please?

The BBC putting out personal anecdotes, and apparently Covid directly causes cardiac arrest? What a development!

Jesus Christ, they're really scraping the bottom of the barrel now.

So basically, if we wear a mask in a shop then we won't get covid and we won't have a heart attack.

Right, that's us sorted now.

Has iSAGE ever supported any relaxation measure? I don't think they have. It's all you get from them - whinge whinge whinge, never a solution or proposed solution.

Lambda is just the Peru variant that's been around for ages. The media will no doubt use the renaming of it as an excuse to try and scare people again.

You couldn’t mark independent sage’s necks with a blowtorch.

Only weeks after being massively wrong re July 19th, they’re now proclaiming (and i’m sure hoping for) a ‘huge surge’ in cases in September.

In any job or position, big or small, where you have to make decisions , you will be shot at. it will often be from people who are unwilling to be shot at themselves or propose any alternative. these isage c***s are nothing more than a bunch of know it all sweetie wives only with letters after their names

in fact i think indy sage is a group of people collectively possessed with the ghost of the onefinfalkirk forum, constant doom mongering and wishing for the worst just to say i told you so

Daily Cases Update:  Day 10 in a row of case rises up to 172.6  I expect another 4-5% rise tomorrow as our 4th wave of infections moves towards my projected stable point of circa 190-195 per 100K.

They will continue to predict a future surge until either it happens (and they can act all high and mighty) or they are just ignored.

Surely the experts should be looking into why, 4 weeks after removing all covid restructions in England, the 7 day average of cases (despite the "MoAr TrAnSMisSiBlE" delta variant) has fallen 40% and stabilised rather than continuing to panic about people testing positive for a virus which, for the huge majority, will make them feel like shite for a few days at worst.

Is it the vaccines helping to reduce the severity of infections?

Is it herd immunity?

Is it thar the delta variant, despite being more transmissible, is actually a bit shan and much less potent than previous variants?

Is it that previous lockdowns / face mask mandates were actually counter productive?

These are the questions which need answered as we leave Covid-19 behind and look to live with and treat it like any other endemic respiratory virus.

Where is @Distant Doonhamer with the daily update?

Anyway, today's figures with no context on previous days/week:

1,567 new cases of COVID-19 reported
17,354 new tests for COVID-19 that reported results
9.6% of these were positive
0 new reported death(s) of people who have tested positive (noting that Register Offices are generally closed at weekends)
39 people were in intensive care yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19
337 people were in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19

Cases are dropping and there's Afghanistan, Climate Change and a 0.3% drop in house prices to talk about now.

Normal life is returning.

Even this here topic is no longer nailed to the top of the General Nonsense forum.

The day will come soon when we have to dredge the dark depths of page 2 to find it.

You would expect a spike of some sort even before Sept but if it starts to level out then surely we are on the home stretch to normality

I suspect not actually, despite my household currently running at a rate of 25,000 per 100k.
