Travel restrictions.

There'll still be a lot of 'local' restrictions, i.e., parents won't be able to watch their kids play football. Schools, for example, will still feel compelled to have some kind of restrictions. That kind of shit is going to be on the go for a very long time.

If these things are still in place by october we’d be as well just pressing the nuke buttons because life just isnt worth living if youre essentially under house arrest forever.

If we can't get these things punted in October (when the vaccine roll out will be completely finished) then when can we?

Keeping things in place "just in case" should not be acceptable in any circumstance, as at what point do we definitively decide the thing we have kept them in place "just in case" for isn't going to happen?

This article from the BBC which doesn't show who wrote this  is a bit confusing as it jumps from the possibility of a large flu epidemic next winter to ways we dealt with COVID-19 in that the writer is hinting at using the same strategy could be used against flu, which was a flu pandemic strategy in the first place. Not a chance we are going through another lockdown next winter for flu or anything else, that can be filed in the bin.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-56312621
The Dr herself can be argued with but as it says on the tin, she's was there to speak about the worst case scenario and there was a distracting reason behind it why she was wheeled out for this interview which we have mentioned on here countless times.
Again in an article from the BBC the fear of variants is brought up and no mention of the successful current vaccination program.
No prize guessing that this type of article will pop up repeating this kind of message through out the rest of the year and the fear mongers will try to prime us into thinking we need to head this off next winter with another lockdown. I get the impression these people are enjoying this new found power and influence a little too much and that's those in the media especially who write this stuff and deny any responsibility for their actions and how it affects people.
Stuff like this regardless of the improving situation doesn't put you in a good mood nor does it inspire any confidence in those in the mainstream media.

Surely no one would seriously buy that, they can’t use the “ deadly virus “ line for flu, everyone knows what flu is and nobody ever expects a lockdown for it

Thing is though it has always been a deadly virus and there was an influenza pandemic a century ago that was much worse than COVID-19 on IFR. Over the years we have chosen to accept x number of casualties from the flu among the elderly and otherwise infirm every winter as normal so it was usually never newsworthy unless there was a particularly bad strain and even then life continued normally. If the media started highlighting influenza case numbers and ICU admissions in the same sort of way they have with COVID-19....

I don't disagree. But I just can't picture a restriction-less life at any point this year.

Neither can I. But the restrictions that hang around are more likely to be annoying but not preventing anything things like mask wearing than social distancing / banning parents from watching their kids play football.

No because it is in England, not Scotland so absolutely to do with us.

Anyway if you read the full story I don't think what she is saying is that bad. Just that she needs to be prepared for the worst case scenario, but that she expects that we will be able to open in the summer as expected.

She's no future advising government with that sort of message...

Daily Infections per 100K in 7 days Update:   The UK in particular had a huge 48 hours dropping over 13% (Error me claiming 24 hours yesterday. All in timing of figures)

Another decent day for Scotland.  Highlights are Renfrewshire, East Lothian, West Dunbartonshire & Edinburgh.    Lowlights are the large gap from the top 6 down to North Ayrshire.   Some Weegie area that sounds like it should be in Wales is now Scotland's most dangerous neighbourhood.

I am going to do a 14 day review tomorrow, from the figures at the 1st announcement of the Road Map to Levels at the end of April. I can exclusively reveal we have had a 40% reduction in those 2 weeks, and infectivity has dropped 34%.  Surely some decent roadmap changes possible now.
