Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Exactly this. I see their website is running with the "scientists say to keep social distancing for the foreseable" as their main headline. Whipping up other hysterical news sites like the Ayrshire Daily News to report it and have a meltdown in their comments section. MSM have a lot to answer for during the pandemic

Correct.

And yet more open ended language. What does "foreseeable" even mean. It could mean anything from a couple months to several years.

Any politician worth their salt would tell to f**k off and come back with something more specific.

With testing maybe the best and easiest way would be a Bluetooth or wifi device that tests you and will allow entry to events once your phone accepts the test. A bit big brother but it would allow for easy access to football or gigs, can’t be too difficult to make something like this surely?

If youre tested at work or in another place like a GP surgery or dentists then that counts. Yes it would cost a bit but how much would another lockdown cost or 200,000 needing ICU over the next couple of years? Possibly switch testing off and on with the tier system.

This to me is a properly handled crisis, not just let’s open stuff up and hope that a transmissible virus will somehow stop spreading when we only have 30% vaccinated. It would also mean the end of masks and SD. In the event of a breakout then just close down a small area and switch on smartphone only access with negative test. Nah let’s just let it rip, no idea who or what or where it is. Punish everyone.

makes a mockery of England's red list thing almost as if they may as well not bother.

Aside from the fact that only 1 in 1,000 cases are imported at the border, and that it's the 'UK variant' which is going to 'sweep the world', the exact same can be said of the Scottish Government's scramble for relevance when people simply fly to Newcastle or Manchester before their onward journey to Scotland.

Still, there will be coin put in some people's pockets.

If you get down to a low enough number of community case then that "1 in 1,000" is completely incorrect. You could argue every single case outside of China is "imported at the border".

It's 1 in 1000 when in UK transmission is high that will be a constant shift of number and therefore a pretty useless stat

I don’t see a problem.

We were told the variants aren’t of concern and the high risk have now been vaccinated. Covid has been reduced to a few people with the sniffles.

Not all the at risk groups are done and ICU capacity is still pretty high until the numbers are down we have to keep working away, granted it won't be long now but I think it would be far more effective to have 6/8 weeks of the SG policy at the border rather than the UK permashift "red list"

Ffs unlock it now when I've already got this:

I said the other day that this would be acceptable in 2021 *ONLY*

Being honest, the things @D.A.F.C mentions likely aren't going to happen this year without it. A digital LFT test result QR code that can be scanned upon entry isn't a dreadful short term idea.

Do it at home, enter the result, and it's valid for x hours.

It's a reasonable stop gap until the vaccines are fully rolled out. And it is better than the alternative of masks, SD, closures etc all summer.

Basically what todd said its not forever its for a few months until vaccinations are finished or if there's outbreaks.

Nobody wants some dystopia like 1984 or China. Lockdowns don't work, they're a blunt tool.

Steady it's not either or, once everyone is vaccinated no one will give two shits about an outbreak unless there is a strain that is resistant to the vaccines, which is unlikely and will start with isolated cases most likely from countries with slower or no vaccine roll out.

If there is a Government app, to allow proof of vaccination for international travel, then I have no problem with it.

Anything more, like a domestic vaccine passport/app, can go in the sea where it belongs.

I look forward to seeing a working government app...

...in a few years.

It’s Dido Harding’s next project after her success at ‘Track and Trace’.
