The thing is, they have said that.

Nicola Sturgeon stood up at one of the briefings and specifically said it was a balance of risks. Swinney has also said the same.

Fair enough i missed that then

I mean, it basically should be treated as a race though, we want to get as many jags in as many arms as quickly as possible.

It is a race.  The more we vaccinate and the faster we vaccinate the fewer people die.

People who say it isn't a race or the nasty Tories are making it a race or the Tories are making it all up are just trying to deal with the fact that at this point it looks like their team aren't winning the race.

Fair enough.

It’s just been a trope on here since August, and quite a few people saying “ I just wish they’d be honest” when they have been saying since at least October (if not before) that it was a balance of risks and harms.

If the SG really thought schools were completely safe, they wouldn’t be closed right now. The fact they are indicates an acceptance of that. The real question is over the effectiveness of distance learning and the impact on the most disadvantaged in society.

Likewise the people saying we shouldn’t be comparing ourselves with the rest of the U.K.

Why on earth shouldn’t we be comparing ourselves to neighbouring countries that have access to the same supply per head of population as we do?

The answer is in the post you quoted.

You can bet your mortgage that were the roles reversed, it would be getting sung from the rooftops and infinite amounts of smoke blown up certain arses.

Schools going back isn't themselves an issue. It's the constant references to them being safe that irks people. Along with the likes of Sridhar wanting them open at the same time as pushing #ZeroCovid nonsense.
If the SG came out and said that they knew schools being open had a negative impact on the R rate, but it was a risk they feel is acceptable then it wouldn't be an issue. They never will, though.

I'm not sure there is anyone out there who doesn't realise that relaxation of any measure is likely to see a rise in R and hence the reason why the whole process needs to be phased and stage managed. I have yet to here Swinney, Leitch or any other stake holder even once say schools opening wouldn't lead to an R rate rise, it was why they were closed in first place.

Swinney has categorically stated numerous times that schools are safe. Hence much of the rage towards him.

The Citadel in Ayr is not remotely poorly located.

I can't work out if you're someone who is incredibly frustrated by the virus and truly hates the measures that the SG are taking, or someone who is delighted that the virus is there because you see it as a golden chance for the SG to fail.

Probably a bit of both. You've definitely got more excited in the last few days when the vaccination statistics look bad for the SG.

It’s literally a five minute walk from a bus stop at the bottom of the town with a massive car park. The most vulnerable have been vaccinated at local surgeries, to ramp things up larger venues are needed.

There is plenty of things to criticise but this isn’t one of them.
