Except that nobody has actually argued for a blanket policy:
1) Where there is no community transmission then schools should remain open
2) Where there is they should not.
This means putting school education into the adjustments of the regional tiers just like anything else - including of course further and higher education that has been adapting to this for months already.

So we agree then after all. So no more SHUT THE SCHOOLS stuff then unless it's in response to a particular significant outbreak at a particular school.

Erm no, because that's not what "community transmission" means at all.

Hopefully there'll be enough money left over in the public purse for a badly needed, English comprehension class for yourself and several other 'mature learners' on this thread.

This afternoon I was doing some work for a central belt LA HR dept and part of it was analysis on vacancy management. Couldn't help but notice wef 11/1/21 they had appointed umpteen new staff as exam INVIGILATORS. Wonder what happens to them now ?

If remote learning or blended learning goes on much longer beyond 18 January then there is a real chance that schools will not have completed any of their SQA-provided evidence for N5. They will be relying on internally-produced materials - but worse than last session because there will be little or no prelim evidence.

Many of us were saying back in April that there needed to be an early decision.

If there ends up being another u-turn regards how estimates are produced then Swinney surely has to go. He has not learned at all that SQA is not fit for purpose - they couldn't run the proverbial in a brewery.

UsForThem are not exactly representative of parents though.

They are representative of the focused push to keep schools open at all costs though. And contrary to the original claim, it is quite clearly a middle class lobby group running this agenda rather than an equivalent of the Jarrow Hunger Marchers pleading for the government to please please educate their rag-wearing waifs.

Jo Bisset seems to be the most vocal - but from what I've seen not everyone in UsForThem supports her. Her agenda seems driven by a politically motivated attack on the Scottish Government agenda than any deep-seated concern for pupils. She's an oxygen thief given too much publicity by the MSM.

A more reasonable indicator of parent views would be the National Parent Forum of Scotland.

Still dunno what the aim is attacking a special interest group instead of inflexible employers. Like I say every study I've read on the mismatch between intentions and actual compliance with covid controls cite childcare and lack of financial support as major factors, be it UK based or otherwise.

We're not talking about 'compliance with Covid controls' eg self-isolation though. There is no 'control' in place and it's not as if they're going to rock up to schools and chuck the weans in over the fence if the government says that physical teaching is not safe.

Tory MP here being very reasonable about the situation

I was thinking that if it was an outbreak of something like Covid in Central Africa then the UK would be closing its borders to people from Central Africa or if it didn't people like him would be asking why not.

So approximately 15% of Kids turned up to Schools in Fife today after the councils unnofficial "take the 2 days of if you want letter" late last week.

This was how they sneaked it in.

  • young people are being asked to take full responsibility for having a completed form showing contacts for every period for every day they are in school.  This could be 3 days only if they plan to come to school only for the rest of this week.  Or for any choosing to come to school Monday and Tuesday they should have 5 completed sheets for every day.

Fife Council just does what it likes.

My son was the only one in his high school class today. Mrs B considering no bothering sending them tomorrow.

He also last week had one of they “close contact” sheets to fill out.
