Update from vaccine guy

“So, looks very promising indeed. The vaccinated group not only didn't develop severe disease, but also had way fewer infections. Based on this, the suggestion is that the vaccine provides sterilising immunity (how long it lasts? far too early to say). By the numbers (94) it looks like Pfizer skipped their first planned interim analysis at 32 events and held on to get stronger data before unblinding. Appears that has paid off. They still need to wait until November 21st to get their follow up safety data before the FDA will grant EUA, but on the current efficacy data, that's a lock (unless people start keeling over). There's other good news too. The Moderna vaccine is right behind it, using exactly the same technology. Both are a pain in the arse to ship but much easier to scale up than previous vaccine platforms (and also much easier to adapt if the mink variant actually turns out to be a thing, you just insert the new sequence). Having two available would ramp up delivery as well. No indication so far either that the Oxford vaccine won't make it over the line as well, so best case scenario is a hat trick with the front runners with a whole posse of others brining up the rear later next year (J&J could even get there by the end of this year...that one did have sterilising immunity in pre-clinical studies, and Moderna claim theirs did too). The one major note of caution at this stage is that a sub-group analysis would be impossible at this stage, so how well the vaccine performs in high risk groups won't be known til the trials fully play out (not just older individuals, but different ethnic groups, people with different underlying co-morbidities etc). Also, none of the individuals that actually contracted the virus in the control group (or the vaccinated group) developed severe disease, so one of the primary endpoints of the trial can't be evaluated yet...however, if it provides 90% sterilising immunity, then that's a big (and fairly unexpected) win!”

Right alongside Ross Tokely imo.

Ross Tokely wasn't even the most incredible scientific achievement at ICT.

When you consider that they could have built the Caledonian Stadium anywhere in Inverness, and they decided to build it right next to the Firth and constructed it in such a manner that you get the most horrendous northernly gales... Ross Tokely pales into insignificance tbh.

Edinburgh being in tier 3 the same as Glasgow is ridiculous

Unfortunately, I fully expect us to be kept in T3 until December at the earliest, perhaps for fear of the plague rats from the west coming through.

Begs the questions of why did they publish the criteria for each tier if it was going to be disregarded.

When asked about Glasgow being at the high end of level and the likes of Edinburgh & Falkirk being much lower Sturgeon said the numbers are important but other factors are a consideration as well, such as the relationship between health board area and travel patterns. That's common sense, not ideal but in no way ridiculous. Also said any easing of restrictions tomorrow are highly unlikely.

Looks very much like if we want restrictions to be lifted, the numbers need to start dropping in and around the Greater Glasgow (mainly Glasgow itself and Renfrew/Dumbartonshire) area for it to happen. So far its levelling off but not starting to drop.

I think the news from Pfizer has boosted stock markets around the world, as opposed to any expectation of an announcement from Boris.

Although apparently Zoom shares have dropped by 5%.

Ocado and Just Eat plummeting as well. Bad news for Snoop Dogg.

Transportation, handling and dispensing of this vaccine is going to be the big problem. I posted an article from Belgium weeks ago where they indicated it would not be gps due to both the handling temperature and also that the vaccine will come in packs of 10 a little like John player specials.

Trying to work out the worst affected area of Scotland currently I believe it might be Burnbank Central & Udston. Any pandbers know the zone well. Lovely looking Fish and Chip shop Marini's

Also anyone got a freezer that goes down to minus 80 for our vaccines ?

Possibly Marini's if they ditch the mock chops

Had a couple of rolls and friiters out Marini's last week. My boys' Tae Kwon Do class is down there, so I'll be there between 4 and half 6 tonight. Happy to pre-emptively execute any potentially infected as a public service 👍 🔫 🔪

i'll be raging when the government sticks 50p on the cost of a 20 deck of Pfizer

do you even get ten decks of fags anymore btw? you don't get them in the republic.

It is true that alot of people in falkirk travel regularly to the cities for work, leisure and sadly , football. The last one is off the cards, the middle one is quite severely restricted and the last one you imagine would be quite a bit less than usual with wfh. A bit disingenuous if they are using normal time travel data to justify it

Invest money in a freezer company.

So todays released figures to 5th November show another rise for 5th day in a row from 146.7 to 150.2 per 100K infections 7 days to Nov 5th.

Some good guys

Aberdeen down from 44.2 to 35.9 in their quest for tier 1  Must try a little harder.

Dundee City as well continue to behave and drop again from 130.6 to 125.2  Still at least another week in tier 3

Some badguys

Angus continue their rise in 2 days from 55.1 to 72.3  and could be threatened with tier 3 soon.

East Ayrshire up again 147.5 to 162.3

East Renfrewshire with a similar jump from 217.7 to 229.2

Fife another rise from 100.9 to 108.7 looks doomed to Tier 3 on Tuesday. The care home riddled in Crossgates with 25 cases does not help.

https://www.nhsfife.org/news-updates/coronavirus-updates/2020/cases-of-covid-19-associated-with-private-crossgates-care-home/

Inverclyde another huge rise for 3rd day from 146.5 to 163.2

North Ayrshire rises today while its next door neighbour drops.

Perth & Kinross also moving to tier 3 possibly with another rise from 85.6 to 96.1

Stirling still upwards from 125.3 to 138.   Got their tier wrong sorry but certainly deserved of tier 3 now.

Renfrewshire rising again and no sign of any sustained drops in Lanarkshire or Glasgow.

I think tier 4 looks inevitable for many of the tier 3 councils on tuesday.

So here we go again.   todays released figures to 6th November show another rise for 6th day in a row from 150.2 to 150.4 per 100K infections 7 days to Nov 6th.

Angus rise for 3rd day running from 72.3 to 78.3     Probably dodge any relegation to tier 3 for now.

Dundee really are on fire with following guidelines compared to the West Coast bad boys.  Another drop from 125.2 to 121.2  If any council was to be rewarded for actually following advice it is my Dundonian friends.

East Ayrshire continue to be naughty up again from 147.5 to 172.9 in 2 days.

As yesterday East Renfrewshire still rising 229.2 to 236.6.

Fife a slight drop at last 108.7 to 106.3  Too late to stop Tier 2 to Tier 3 ??

Glasgow still over 300 has got to be relegated.  Absolute cesspit.  A 10% increase since the City joined the official Tier 3 last week.  Get it in Tier 4.

Inverclyde still rising !!

Huge rise in Renfrewshire from 258 to 285.9     Get it in Tier 4 immediately.
