Lockdown was not necessary. You only need to look at countries in South America who went into lockdown before the U.K. but have only now reached the peak.

Why bring up Sweden then? If they aren’t comparable countries in terms of things like health of the nation then why mention them. Is it just to highlight one country who didn’t lockdown and it made no major difference to the Covid death toll?

You could be right that going into lockdown achieved nothing but given the general health of people in Scotland, it could have led to a higher death toll. We’ll never know. Or maybe we will get another chance to see how not locking down goes over the Winter.

Which happened in Sweden to an even greater extent than here. Anyone who thinks there was no lockdown in Sweden is deluded, the only difference is they didn't need the same extent of legal enforcement for them to obey. High schools and colleges were closed and any pubs and restaurants that didn't enforce strict social distancing were shut down. They exceeded the death toll of all their Scandinavian neighbours put together, and their GDP fell by roughly the same, without any significant increase in herd immunity. I get bored of having to repeat this.
