Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Recommended Posts

Going by the boffin in the video that’s been linked a few times, he’s saying that countries that treat the fever aspect of the illness with the usual fever reducing drugs are seeing higher death rates. Avoiding paracetamol and Ibuprofen might not seem too silly.
Have heard letting the fever run its course is the best thing. Dont take anything apart from fluids and maybe vitamins.
That's come from quite a few sources. Ibuprofen definitely not.

I still don't get the "everyone is going to get it" viewpoint, given how sparsely spread the Scottish population is in relation to say the city of wuhan. Likewise London where people are literally living on top of one another.

Surely if this is as contagious as being made out, then wuhan would have had many more confirmed cases and the likes of London would be ta ta bella ???

What about the rest of China?

There are 1.3 billion there - surely with the "unavoidable and everyone will get this" thing, then it should be utterly rife all over Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou et al by now ?

Well, another Monday, another load of guesswork and headless-chicken impersonating at HMPPS.

1. Prison Officers can't exactly work from home.

2. There arent enough of them anyway.

3. There are no facilities within our overcrowded jails for offenders to self-isolate.

4. Once any virus gets into a prison, it goes round like wildfire.

5. We're fucked, basically. BUT we've got some wipes for the prisoner phones.

Another great interview with Jason Leitch on GMS there. Apparently he has also just rinsed Piers Morgan on the telly.

In classic Scottish style, the next item was the travel news, where the first reported issue was sheep on the road  in Aberdeen. Business as usual.

This is confusing me. I don't know a lot about drugs, where does this leave Panadol? It seemed before that wisdom was in Panadol if you got the covid. Does this advice cover that?

The epidemiologists in Scotland have no idea where all this discussion about the approach being to create a herd immunity has come from.

As far as they are concerned, it is definitely not the strategy that is currently being implemented in Scotland.

Also, their modelling reckons the current infection rate is somewhere between 5,000 and 10,000 people just now. But with the testing only being done for those in hospital or certain situations, they reckon the official number could actually stay the same in the next week or so, despite it not being the real picture out there. Mental.

Depends how you look at it. We don't necessarily need to know the real number, since most people won't require treatment and it's too late to stop the spread now anyway.

We just need to make sure those who need treatment can get it. What the actual infected number is is less important now. They can kind of model that out from severe cases.

Obviously, knowing you are infected is helpful for self-isolation etc, but the main thing is those who really need treatment. Many confirmed diagnoses will be pointless as most of them will just stay home and get better.

I think mainly because China can and will take much quicker action to limit freedoms, and has the resources to pour tens of thousands of medical staff into a region whereas Europe doesn't.

We also don't know what the consequences will be of the lifting of the limits on freedoms in China.

They may well find they have just delayed another spike. We won't know for a few weeks.

You would think, however their "lock down" as opposed to our "let's all try and get it" plan, may account for some of that ??

As I said though, the likes of London should be screwed in relation to the rest of the country.

Maybe we should try a reverse poll tax experiment, where everyone in London try's out the "herd immunity" option and the rest of us can wait and see if it works or not ????

At least if it doesn't, it should help with their overcrowding problem.

Would be interesting to know what the current unemployment figures are , with so many places closing

there must be a high % with no income. Rent payments, community charge starting next month. Money might

become worthless if this pandemic becomes even worse than it is now.
