Coronavirus (COVID-19)

I was expecting to at least be able to visit someone indoors

The thing with visiting indoors is that they can't allow that until we can get within 2M. Unless you have a mansion there is absolutely no way can you stay 2M away from folk in your house. I can understand their caution on this. Add in the fact the Government will know a fair chunk of folk will be doing this already it's probably a bit of damage limitation as well.

I’m annoyed the “travelling no more than 5 miles” hasn’t been lifted. Really think 30 miles would suffice

That doesn’t apply to family visits though

If that's the case, then the 2M rule will have to go before phase 3.

I was more talking about a visit when it rained tbh. I reckon i could quite easily stay over 2m away from someone where i'd be. Not talking about being in a big group.

Feels a bit out of sync with the extended household not having to distance at all.

For the majority, nothing has really changed at all in terms of seeing family and friends which is a bit disappointing. Especially when considering 6 days after the next review tourism is back on. That's a massive jump.

Why would you need to go more than 5 miles for a bit of exercise?

Anyone eat farmed salmon from Norway recently?

Better get tested for COVID-19.

Norwegian salmon blamed for Beijing coronavirus outbreak

Chinese consumers have almost completely stopped buying imported salmon from Norway after a coronavirus outbreak at a fish market in Beijing was blamed on the fish.
"We are receiving reports of cancellations of orders for fresh salmon to the market as a result of the measures for testing food that have now been implemented," Victoria Braathen,  fisheries envoy to the Norwegian Seafood Council, told state broadcaster NRK

The salmon scare began after a cutting board at a fish stall in Xinfadi market, the largest fresh food market in Beijing, tested positive for the virus.

All three of the first people who tested positive to the virus in Beijing had visited the market in the preceding days.

After Chinese authorities launched widespread testing in the capital, 79 people have tested positive out of 80,000 tested.

Yang Peng, a member of the Beijing CDC New Coronary Pneumonia Outbreak Prevention and Control Expert Group, told China's CCTV News that the outbreak could have come into China with contaminated seafood or meat.

"Through testing it was discovered that the virus came from Europe. The preliminary assessment is that it is related to imports. However, it is unclear where the virus comes from. It could be contaminated seafood or meat, or it could come from people who have been on the market," he said.

However, Espen Nakstad, who leads Norway's coronavirus response at the Norwegian Directorate of Health said he didn't believe that the virus had come into China in salmon.

"It is a little difficult to imagine how a salmon can bring coronavirus to China," he told NRK

Whether the outbreak came in on Norwegian fish or not, the impact on salmon sales is very real. According to the Global Times newspaper, many supermarkets have now removed Norwegian salmon from the shelves.

"There is not a single customer who wants to come to our restaurant right now, since salmon has been made the scapegoat," the general manager of Beijing's Haile'er restaurant, which specialises in Norwegian salmon, told NRK.

Norwegian salmon exports to China fell by a third last week to 240 tonnes, Norway’s state-owned seafood marketing organisation said on Thursday.

The 34% decline came as imports of salmon to China were halted towards the end of the week when the novel coronavirus was discovered at stalls processing the fish at a major Beijing wholesale food market.

“It’s too early to tell which consequences the new outbreak in Beijing will have for salmon exports in the time ahead,” the Norwegian Seafood Council said in a statement.

Norway and China have both concluded that the salmon itself was not the source of the virus, Norway’s fisheries minister said on Wednesday.

Yeah, seen that yesterday on the news that China has had a second outbreak of the virus. Experts looking around for something or someone to blame, not that anyone in the market could be a carrier without knowing it or just not washed their hands.

No one thinks of cooking the salmon either???

From my point of view its basically no change. I guess some good stuff for retail - at least from 29th June, but no beer gardens before 2nd July.

Non-essential retail (bar shopping centres) is a substantial shift - it was originally going to be small retail only.

The aim still seems to be to keep folk in the mindset of not travelling to limit spread of any infection.. Probably 90% of necessaties for most folk in Scotland are within 5 miles though I appreciate that might not be case in rural communities. If they start pushing the distance up it will be an invitation to folk to travel more.

I have no idea how Kenneth is in that post.

I'm wondering if that's perhaps why we aren't allowed in the house the now and it'll be lifted at that point.

Jackson Carlaw is a right c**t.

My wife who is not at all political was shouting at the TV when he was on - he is an utterly opportunistic w**k - and was called out for it quite rightly.

Leonard was slightly better - but you feel with the unionist parties that it is a constant SNP bad agenda - if the Scottish Government were doing the opposite they would still complain.

Empires rise and fall in the time it takes Leonard to ask a question.

still though: Last of Us part 2 is out tomorrow, apparently a 30 hour campaign, so between my job, looking after the kid and my general ineptness at gaming, that should see me happily through to phase 3....
