Coronavirus (COVID-19)

I'm not criticising people for doing it, I think it's understandable but there seems to be a mentality about the restirctions where people think "what can I do that pushes as far as possible to the edge of the interpretation of the law?".  The example someone gave ages ago was people kayaking and saying "well the rules don't say you can't".  My own mother-in-law immediately when they brought in restrictions started planning how she could visit us without getting too close, she was wanting to come round, go straight into our garden and stay on teh decking while my son played on the grass, stuff like that.  We had to kind of gently say that we aren't supposed to be doing that.  This golf chat is similar, you can see someone thinking "well I'm outside, I'm nowhere near anyone, I'm on my own" but it's kind of missing the point.

An interesting mentality among a lot of people when it comes to this.  There's also a lot of people who just don't give a f**k about rules or laws or conventions or their neighbours, hence house parties with bouncy castles.

If they are self employed and have either tried the usual dodges to avoid paying the right amount of tax (claiming dividends as a company director/underreporting actual earnings), they'll be fucked for government bungs. This will be the case if they are recently self employed.

In the first two cases I have little sympathy. In the later they have basically no choice of working or going down the UC route.

I know at least one who is self employed, and does everything kosher through an accountant etc. He was shiting himself before they announced the help for self employed. Unsire how far he has gotten in terms of getting access to the money as yet.

I think it was June that the scheme was due to start ?

Not particularly relevant in the current crisis but blindly trusting authorities isn’t necessarily a good thing.

BBC might miss the mark here if sympathy is the response they are going for....

Sorry, but nobody's talking about penalising success, what we're talking about is NOT paying ridiculous sums of money to certain individuals whether that be Premiership footballers, Company CEO's or anyone else who's in the SUPER RICH bracket.

Handing Paul Pogba £10,000 per week instead of £290,000 isn't "penalising" anyone, it's paying someone £520,000 p/a when the median wage is less than £35,000 in the country and the minimum wage is around £16,000.00.

As for company CEO's, they are paid huge bonuses and salary's irrespective of success or failure and there's quite a few high profile guys who fail time and time again, yet still make it on the Forbes list. (Yes Andy, I'm looking at you).

There's also far too much nepotism and old boys network which make the whole setup an absolute sham. The regulators are part of it as are the politicians and as such the whole system is rotten to the core.

Of course most of the country don't care about stuff like this as they're far more interested in the lives and loves of z list celebrities, which ironically is a major part of the problem in the first place.

There are a myriad of problems surrounding the issue of taxation, including some of those you mention.  But, let's start with the low lying fruit and start getting corporations to pay taxes relative to their revenue.  As a start.

People burning themselves while cooking are taking up intensive care beds that may be needed for gravely ill coronavirus patients.

Specialists at The Alfred hospital have reported a surge in severe burns since Victoria's stage-3 lockdown came into effect last month.

Many of the injuries being treated at the hospital's burns unit have been caused by hot oil with others resulting from people cooking while intoxicated.

This, buses and trains must be quite hazardous right now.

I'm on the train everyday and to be fair to Scotrail they've been putting on 7 and 8 carriage trains to carry under 70 people (sometimes under 30).

They've also started cleaning them regularly and you're not really coming into contact with anyone else as even getting on and off everyone has been following the social distancing rules.

Although I'm commuting to Glasgow daily and in an office each day, the most vulnerable I've actually felt is when I'm down at my local Tesco for the shopping.

Not everyone has a car and with public transport (my area ) being reduced some people will find taxis vital. Hopefully the drivers are cleaning their cabs .

The Uber ones round here don't bother observing the laws of the road let alone recommendations for preventing Covid-19 spread so good luck with that one.

Mentioned it a week back or so, but our company (travel industry) has decided not to take the Government scheme.

Certainly seems like they've seen this as an opportunity to strip the company, and get rid of parts of the business which were not profitable.

I am keeping my job, but a lot of people I'd class as friends have been made redundant this week.

Left an incredibly sour taste.

No I wouldn't fancy it.

My mate is a taxi driver. In his words, at least it means if he fancies a drive he can go one without feeling guilty.

He's in his 30s though. Not sure fat 60 year old messes will be enjoying it quite so much.
