This from the man who said anyone driving their wife to the supermarket should get a police truncheon to the face.

I'm sure that comeback must have sounded effective and relevant in your head, but not to be.

The problem with the vast majority of people is that they simply parrot what their favourite politician says without appearing to give any consideration as to whether they are actually logical.

So long as pubs etc are open, travel bans / PCR tests / Quarantine will do absolutely nothing to slow the spread of anything already here.

Welshy knows this, but he is blinded by a deep rooted inability to criticise NS.

There are many like Welshy who revere and fetishise Nicola Sturgeon to the exclusion of all else. Nicola comes before the SNP and certainly before independence or any other policy.

No criticism of Nicola, no matter how well founded and no matter how polite can be allowed to stand. Anyone who criticises anything she does or anything she says is either a rabid Brit-Nat or a moonhowling Alba da’.

it’s very weird.

Looking forward to the NS heads gone when other countries / rUK start banning travelling to Scotland due to probably massive community transmission of Omicron.

It’s only rife in Lanarkshire though, so Scot Gov will announce that no-one is allowed to visit Lanarkshire this Christmas. rUK reaction….

Seems to be the case there will be continuing variants getting produced in the likes of Southern Africa as there is not enough people being vaccinated.

Not a big issue in Scotland or most of the 'first world'. The big issue is getting the drug cartels to release the licence on these  vaccines so they can be locally produced or at least send some of the millions of doses to  countries that need/ want them.

I heard only the Astra Zenica vaccine is produced on a not for profit business. The Big Pharma companies need to release their parents but will probably not give a shit as they can sell a few more million boosters with each 'variant' that is discovered.

Is this actually the case, though? Cases were extremely low in South Africa. Generally it's more likely for mutations to occur in HIV/AIDS sufferers and people with compromised immune systems.

Africans are also quite vaccine hesitant for sensitive, historic reasons. In any case, although high vaccination rates are preferable, immunity from natural infection contributes. The virus will continue to mutate regardless.

Could be. Obviously new variants does not mean they are any more dangerous to communities who are vaccinated or have built up immunity.

Good point on HIV/ Aids folk. They are unfortunately very prevalent in Southern Africa so that could skew figures.

China announced a billion doses for Africa today.  I think it was 600m delivered and the rest to be locally produced in Africa.

Their vaccines may or may not be as good as the wests but they’re playing the geopolitical game far better than the west is.

One thing that's wrong with this thread, is people sneering at other posters for being quite happy to wear masks or comply with social distancing for a bit longer. It's their fucking choice,  so why let it bother you?? People's mental health has suffered from this whole thing, maybe some people are still struggling a bit??

Maybe some people are struggling a bit because they have no choice, due to government enforced legislation, other than to comply with mask wearing, social distancing etc.  it’s not their choice.

Probably because social distancing renders large swathes of society unworkable, and business unviable. It is, quite simply, ruinous, and should absolutely be a last resort rather than a "go to" measure.

The main irk with mask mandates is not that they don't work, but with people clapping like seals when they are introduced because we are "doing something" it gets the politicians off the hook for having to acknowledge and address that they have absolutely no idea what they are doing or what the end game is.

It's not their choice though when they are shrieking for it to be enforced by law and taking pictures of strangers to grass them into Scotrail.

If someone wants to walk around with a FFP2 mask then they're fully entitled to do so. They're not entitled to impose their OCD on others because that's not how a free society works.
