😂 Gie's peace. For what? Taking photos in a public place? Might as well ban camera phones full stop then. BTP may pay it lip service and give him some "advice" but he's broken no law. She's clearly an adult and it's not indecent.

Your OFTW if you'd be happy with total strangers taking pictures, unaware, of your wife/mother/daughter etc

Total wrong un behavior if you think that's acceptable.

I don't think any restrictions will be brought back.  I certainly don't think that schools will be closed or that social distancing will be reintroduced.

Agreed. I can't see how social distancing can be reintroduced without a resumption of the furlough scheme. Which I simply can't see the Tories going anywhere near again.

Whilst taking photos of strangers is indeed the behaviour of someone OFTW, I'm not sure he's actually committed a crime. She's an adult and it's in a public place.

I couldn't care less to be honest. Have we really reached a place where people are effectively claiming image rights over photos of themselves in public? If you don't want to accept the possibility of your image being taken, don't leave your house. There's CCTV on every street corner, security cameras on houses, every man, woman and child over 10 has a smart phone with instant camera.

We're not talking about exploitation, or indecency here. It's a fully dressed adult in a public place for goodness sake. Some truly ridiculous "won't somebody think of the children" like stuff being peddled here.

I'm absolutely sure he hasn't. It seems the P&B public have decided it's a hanging offence though. 🙄

There is a world of difference between walking down a street where CCTV cameras exist to survey the area looking for potential problems and troubles, and being a woman sat on a train whilst some random guy sitting diagonally opposite is secretly snapping pictures of her.

It should be a worry that you can't recognise that.

There really isn't. It's a legal image in a public place. You've only decided it's different because of your perception of what the people owning the images may do with them.

Would it change your thinking if he openly told her he was taking her picture? If not, why not?

If he asked her if it was OK to take her picture, or even said "You're not wearing a mask and I'm taking your photo" then yes, that would be different.  She would then be in a position to either consent to him taking her photo or not, or engage this guy in discussion about the mask wearing.  Either way she would have some say in what was happening with this intrusion on her privacy.

He chose to do neither.

He doesn't need her consent though and she can't prevent him taking it. You have no right to privacy in a public place. This is complete fallacy.

You're absolutely right that it would be the responsible and polite thing to do of course. In this context given he's clearly got a bee in his bonnet about the mask wearing, it would almost certainly cause an argument though.

Aye, the c**t has taken far more creepy pictures of women on trains than that, one even of a reflection of a red haired girl in the window. Whilst he hasn't exactly broken a law, it would be advisable to confiscate his hard drive in any case.

If any of our Kirkcaldy based posters see this c**t standing at the station be sure to give him a kick in the pie on behalf of us all.

The act, whilst legal, is a very weird thing to do. It also isn't the first time he's done it either going by his twitter.

Just because it is legal doesn't mean it isn't troubling or worthy of condemnation.

Didn't say otherwise (wouldn't go as far as troubling but it's certainly disrespectful). And I don't have Twitter and haven't looked at his account, he may be a serial weirdo for all I know. Personally if I was bothered about this I'd be more inclined to ask her to put the mask on properly than run off to tell digital tales to Scotrail. Though to be honest if I was massively bothered about sharing air with strangers I wouldn't be on a train in the first place.

My original issue was though that Oaksoft thinks taking a photo of a properly dressed adult female in public is an offence worthy of a beating and BTP taking action over. It's neither.

Cmon its absolutely one for the watching type behaviour, there is a difference between cctv footage held for prevention and detection of crime and some creepy throbber taking pictures of someone hes not even sitting beside. Taking pictures to humiliate someone or shame them in public in an app thats used by billions of people is pure shite behaviour and can lead to people being harmed both mentally and in some cases physically as a result of one of these social media posts.
He took that pic thinking everyone would congratulate him on being a wonderful person and the reality is it was Lovejoyary of the highest order. The rest of his twitter timeline gives a decent insight into just how much of a wrong yin he is. If he really wanted some kind of action over her not wearing a mask (and hey she may very well have been exempt or eating something) then he could have asked, or you know what sent the picture to BTP instead of shaming someone publicly on social media for a very minor faux pas. Did he think wee Ryan from the Scot Rail social media team would assemble the super best friends team and have this person assassinated or something? Just what outcome did he expect from that tweet?

The incessant whining from so many people about re-introducing restrictions is going to become completely intolerable during the next big wave of case numbers during this winter.

I only hope that the Tories hold off unless the NHS is genuinely being over-run with covid patients. If we get through the winter without major problems then covid is probably finished.

Honestly, Spring can't come fast enough.

The one gateway here is furlough. Without it, the restrictions available are very few.

Fair enough, didn't quite pick it up like that.

I think it's fairly clear why he took the photo and went on Twitter to clipe, tbf - that way she can't tell him to f off.

The guy appears to be a total sad case and taking the photos to put on Twitter is certainly weird to say the least. I do find some of the hysteria from some folk a bit OTT mind you. We have a topic on this very site 10,000 posts deep where you look and comment about folk who a lot of the time have no idea their photo has been taken.
