Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Recommended Posts

What’s everyone’s hopes for the public hearings? Love to see one of the decision makers behind the punt old folks into care homes whilst infectious and kill loads of residents tactic face criminal charges. Hope that it gives people failed by the government the chance to speak without being shouted down as ‘tories’ or now ‘covid deniers’.
Ultimately expect that none of this will happen because it will be a sham.

I'd be very uncomfortable with criminal charges being laid against anyone in any government or other civil service role that made a good faith decision based on the information available to them. There has to be an extremely high bar for charges in that sort of scenario, since they were basically put in a position where they had to do something, and whatever they did came with a risk of killing people. Had it gone the other way you could just as easily have folk demanding criminal charges because people died in corridors or in their homes because there weren't enough hospital beds, which if you look back to March was the sort of thing we were seeing from China and Italy.

There absolutely needs to be an inquiry, and there needs to be accountability, acknowledgements of mistakes made and in some cases that could mean people losing their jobs, but unless there is clear evidence of folk making decisions which were very clearly negligent based on the evidence of the time I don't see where the criminality comes from.

I think you're one of those people that think McDonalds milkshakes are good. Which rather undermines the rest of your deliberately misleading and rather cunty word dribble.

And many will not had their first despite walk in vaccination being in place for a few weeks now.

You highlighted that 34% of the cases were in people aged under 19, in your rush to blame the scum for catching a virus, you are ignoring the fact that most of them have had no opportunity to be vaccinated until very recently, and that it would be virtually impossible for them to be double vaccinated.

I haven't set foot in a McDonald's since about 2006 which would be the one in Kirkcaldy as there wasn't much else there.

That's just reminded me of something I heard on the radio a couple of months ago.  They (Andy Bush on Absolute Radio) were talking about Burger King and some guy from Glenrothes or some other place in Fife called in to say there was only 5 Burger Kings in the whole of Scotland and one of them was in Fife.  Naturally Bush was having none of it and went onto their website live on air and said there was about 7 in Glasgow alone 🤣.  There's 2 in Inverness ffs.

The Fifer was clearly on to boast about where he was from and was made a right cunt out of.  He's clearly never been out of the Kingdom in his life.

High Street?

It's gone now, along with just about everything else.

You used the word scum, I never did.  The uptake in vaccinations has dropped significantly and is far less than it is/was for older age groups.  Plenty of opportunity for people to get vaccinated who aren’t doing so.

It's quite amazing, this attitude to young people*. Not only did they have their lives torpedoed along with the rest of us, to protect other people (even more so for a 19 year old than myself at 35 for example), but they also have seen an already difficult housing market become borderline impossible, have had their actual prime in terms of some of the best times of their lives cut, will have their academic qualifications called into question as they attempt to enter an even more crowded employment market than before, now they are scum for not getting injected with a vaccine that is in the vast majority of cases, more likely to cause harm than the virus is.

*Its young people in general that get it, but the attitude towards anyone who has the temerity to catch a very infectious airborne virus is also mental. Immediate assumption of wrongdoing.....

Are you just continuing to ignore the salient point of this entire discussion? Namely that of the U19 category (which is responsible for over a third of cases), you have only a small number who have had the opportunity to be double vaccinated (literally only people who were 18 by April), another group for whom it is only possible to be single vaccinated (anyone 16, 17 or just turned 18) and a further large group who still are not able to be vaccinated at all.

Therefore, regardless of uptake rates for the vaccine, it was patently obvious that this group would have the highest case rates. Particularly when you add in the fact that people in the U25 age group are most likely to be the ones in low paid service industry jobs who throughout the pandemic have been running around putting themselves at risk in order to provide goods and services to the very same smug middle class people and pensioners who are now preaching to them about rising case rates and collective responsibilities and so on.

There's a secondary point about prior infection in that group as well. The Under 25 group has had high rates of cases over the last few months (shock, unvaccinated people get it!) which will have delayed people from being vaccinated as well. If you had Covid, you have to wait 4 weeks before you can be vaccinated.

For the younger cohorts within this group, that will have delayed things further. We know that one jab isn't effective with Delta than it was with Alpha in preventing infection.

My hope for the public hearings is that some civil servant gets the job or printing out every page of this thread, and then they hire actors to read out poster's contributions to it.

Jason Leitch reads out the relevant parts concerning himself, just like this.

COVID-19: Protection from coronavirus vaccines wanes within six months, study suggests

Protection could fall to below 50% for the elderly and healthcare workers by winter, analysis from the Zoe COVID study found.

The big issue with talking about efficacy against "infections" is that it has no context about the severity.

The concern is about the impact on the health service's ability to cope - not that people are more susceptible to a bad cold.
