Aberdeen at 5.36% and currently only at 118.7 per 100K so not sure you can read too much into these stats.

Sadly you could stick every country on the green list and still the tourism sector wouldn't be back to normal.

Until people can get abroad to where they want to go with confidence the aviation sector in particular is knackered.

The travel industry is fucked so long as the government insists that absolutely everyone must show a negative test and then a day 2 PCR if travelling to the UK. 

The cost and hassle just isn't worth it, especially for short trips.

Can't be football and it can't be the schools.

A failure to get more jags into young people's arms, coupled with extended lockdowns previously limiting natural exposure would be my guess.

An increase among this cohort shouldn't increase pressure on the health service (lower percentage of serious cases / NHS staff being double vaccinated meaning they do not need 10 days isolation for close contacts), but, unlike in England, it will put tremendous pressure on hospitality and other businesses which have many young workers due to the requirement of a negative PCR to avoid 10 days isolation for them.

Apparently there’s no point in vaccines as we could ‘just as easily’ avoid indoor dining.

Perhaps it is, even before the ‘avoid isolation’ stuff there was still mad numbers with only a 5% positive rate etc too. Genuinely seems like a lot of knicker wetting from some and then others who maybe just like being poked in various holes for all manner of reasons. Im not here to kink shame, id just like to understand.

The majority of cases are in the age groups with the lowest vaccination rates, though.

There's no doubt that easing restrictions will lead to increased exposure, but the cases are not being spread evenly.

The vaccines appear to quite clearly limit the infection risk, and a combination of piss poor messaging and slow roll out to younger people is a major factor in these increases.

ScotRail has been accused of planning cuts to vital services by axing the pre-pandemic timetable.

A leaked document shows the train giant wants 300 fewer services than before covid struck.

In an angry statement, the Aslef, RMT, TSSA and Unite trade unions hit out at the cuts agenda:

“It is incredible in the year that the world comes to Scotland to debate the very future of our planet ScotRail is proposing cuts to the rail services in a transparent attempt to use the pandemic as cover for cuts.

“These plans would not only cull jobs, they would hit hardest on the most vulnerable people within society including elderly and disabled people. All the while diverting many passengers back onto the roads and increasing pollution, congestion and greenhouse gases.”

Scotrail, run by Dutch firm Abellio, has faced accusations of rip off train fares and poor service since taking on the franchise.

Public anger is likely to rise when the operator unveils a consultation today on a new “value for money” timetable for May 2022.

They also seem to be making no effort to get catering trolleys back on trains, despite their being no reason for them not to have them now. I imagine the complete alcohol ban will stealthily become permanent as well. As someone who is making a return trip to Brora on the train next weekend, I am particularly aggrieved!

Stagecoach also appear to be making zero effort to restore anywhere near approaching full service. Their previously awful evening and Sunday services in the Highlands are now non-existent. The last bus to Dingwall from Inverness leaves at 4.55pm on a Sunday.
