UsedToGoToCentralPark
Hold on, what's the point of a fit and healthy 12 - 16 year old getting the vaccine. They won't die if they get it.According to the endless adverts even if you are vaccinated you can still pass it on. Just don't see what it will achieve in real life.

By that logic, there's no point in any fit and healthy person being vaccinated. They'll be less likely to get it and less likely to pass it on if a decent number of them are vaccinated. But folk are letting their eagerness to see restrictions lifted get to them. There is a benefit in vaccinating 16-17 year olds and nobody has said that's going to hold up further lifting of restrictions.
Lofarl
If only we had a huge 7-8 week gap there that would have been perfect to jab some children that will be returning to schools and therefore reduce infections in them and their parents and grandparents. Popular Post Frankie S
After his utterly clueless stewardship of Education, it was (to say the least) surprising to see John Swinney ‘demoted’ to the position of Cabinet Secretary for Covid Recovery, which one might have assumed was a fairly important job. This ‘vertical drinking’ prohibition nonsense that Swinney came up with on national television this morning - you’d assume the Scottish government might have briefed the Covid Recovery Secretary / Deputy First Minister with what they had in mind when they decided to spin on mask-wearing mandates in hospitality past the supposedly ‘get back to normal’ date of 9th August; or you might have assumed Swinney would have checked the detail of the proposed government policy before spouting misinformation that could only cause public confusion and spread even more anxiety within the beleaguered business community. But no, he just went off script and ran his mouth off, a bit like Humza Yousaf did within five minutes of being appointed Health Secretary, spreading unfounded scare stories of kids suffering from Covid overwhelming hospitals. With this administration, it’s long been clear that the right hand simply hasn’t got a clue what the left hand is doing. As a licensee, I was never particularly worried that Swinney’s ‘vertical drinking’ prohibition had any basis in fact, and was always relatively confident that it was just another instance of an imbecile masquerading as a government minister getting the wrong end of the stick, and taking his boss’s latest attempt to hamstring the hospitality industry (to further differentiate us ‘caring Scots’ from the ‘reckless Tories’, lest anyone still be in doubt that we care more) to its illogical conclusion. To be honest, most of us in hospitality fully expected there to be some ongoing residue of Covid mitigations extending beyond Aug 9th (despite overwhelming evidence of vaccine efficacy) and provided they involve nothing more than people waving a mobile phone in the general direction of a QR code on arrival, and putting on a mask to enter and exit the building and go to the toilet, most of us would probably accept it, provided it’s a temporary measure. However if the ongoing mitigations are likely to be as onerous on businesses as the restrictions, that’s an entirely different matter. Many colleagues in the industry understandably took this buffoon Swinney at his word, and assumed the Scottish government were about to undermine the promised gains from abandoning social distancing by insisting only seated customers could drink, thus spinning on the onerous capacity restrictions we’ve had to endure under the laughably named ‘Tier 0’ into a Not So Brave New World beyond zero. Thankfully it didn’t take too long for the adults in the room to confer and conclude that Swinney was in fact talking pish. However, it’s hard to avoid the conclusion that SG hasn’t really thought through the implications of its mask policy, and how it’s likely to work in practice in hospitality, live music and nightclub settings. As is par for the course for the pandemic, they’re just making policy on the hoof, and the reason we haven’t been told how all this is going to work - clearly and simply enough for customers, business operators and even Deputy First Ministers to understand - a mere 5 days before nightclubs are allowed to reopen, is that they haven’t actually bothered to work out the details yet. Pretty sure it manages a good few hours out of fridge temperatures so unlikely to cause an issue delivering it from local health centres / hospitals as needed.

Billy Jean King
When I saw the 50,000 at TRNSMT headline I assumed it was 50k per day. Just seen BBC say it's 50k over the 3 days so only 16/17k per day on a Green that used to accommodate 80k. Is that right ???

The BBC might have got it wrong as Geoff Ellis was saying anyone who bought tickets for last year will have their tickets honoured and there'll be more on sale. If it was 50k over the 3 days I'd imagine he would be cancelling tickets rather than selling more.
