Is it hell.  I've worked in geographically distributed teams for years and being remote doesn't impact productivity in the slightest.  Even before the world went crazy for video conferencing last April a telephone/screen sharing was a perfectly adequate means of communicating,

There may be some scenarios where face to face makes more sense but for the majority it's irrelevant.

Utter fucking nonsense. Sounds like the response of a lazy b*****d looking for an excuse to skive and get the easy life.

WFH no problem for the call centre types.

Other than than that, face to face comms are needed and when I need answers to problems or someone fucking up, I do it face to face at MY fucking leisure, not there's.

My business not yours. The privilage ALL mine. Do your job, get rewarded. Go against the narrative, dole time!

Damn right I'm looking for any excuse to make my life easier.  If it upsets a authoritarian dinosaur from a different age like yourself I'll take that as an unexpected but very welcome bonus.

I pity the people that have to work for someone such as yourself.

What a total roaster. A c**t of the highest order. It's happened mate, get over it.

You just come across as a bitter w**k who resents others getting paid good money to do their work from home while you drag your ares into an office getting frozen / soaked day after day as if it's 1950.

I've hated remote work. Mostly situational although now I've moved house I find it a bit better. Still not a fan of doing it full time, so a hybrid model will work well for me in future.

Others will differ in their view. I've been in the office a fair bit the last couple of weeks as I don't presently have broadband and tethering isn't great - barely anyone has been in. The money saved from commutes in particular is not going to be given up easily if people find they can work just as well from home.

Employers that go too far one way or another are going to haemorrhage staff if the choice isn't there.

Absolute nap there will be plenty of fatty VL's loving the fact they don't have to show their chops at the office and can just close off their work and then go straight to playing games the rest of the day.
Rinse and repeat.

Plenty fit folk too, work / life balance. Great not having a commute no matter what you do post work.

Depends on your commute. For some it will be shite, but then if you live somewhere like Fife to have a bigger house and work in Edinburgh, obviously you'll probably think so. I think my commute is dece and let's me build up and wind down. After work drinks/meals with the missus or mates are also gallus.

I understand folk wanting to work from home, but I don't understand wanting it full time. Surely being able to mix it up at least is more exciting?

There is and never has been an after work social culture in anywhere I have worked outside Glasgow but if your used to that then probably you would miss it. I go in maybe 3 days a month as there is 1 system I access which cant be over a home wifi network but that's it. Don't miss the office or the commute one little bit. That said I had 35 years of it and that takes it's toll especially in the winter as you get older.

BlueBears business is probably selling the Big Issue.  He's raging at the lack of footfall

I reckon he's a porn director.  Impossible do to socially distanced and even in person, those face masks are not flattering in the slightest.  Complete hard-on killer.  Believe me.

You sound exactly like my old boss and he was a total c**t.

When it's MY money, I'll be all the c**t I want to be and need to be.

However, I have a highly skilled and highly paid work force, all very happy with their lot and need to be at the work face, being an engineering and project management consultancy. Hardly missed a day in 18 months of this shite. Made a fucking fortune BTW on NHS work, rectifying all the new build shite by others! Criminal what they got away with.

It's for me to swan about at my leisure being semi retired these days a d let the son get on with it. I just press a few palms and look at the bottom line and walk the dugs.

Got be honest, I do sometimes wonder about the impact the pandemic and this thread has had on some people.  It's created a very strange feedback loop that has delivered what can only be described as a boomer-pill moment for some.  Very interesting.

And THAT is why masks should not be mandatory. It has nothing to do with vaccines. It has everything to do with the fact that they clearly don't fucking work. A year of evidence and 3 massive waves of cases proves they don't work.
And yet........
We still have to suffer one expert after another trying to assure us that they do.
If I get to be king, any scientist who claims that masks work would be banned for life from all public office and have their funding permanently removed. These people have set back the reputation of the discipline of science for years.
Is anyone arguing they should be mandatory. You sound like your arguing with yourself. They will be requested in certain situations it will then be a personal choice for people to enter a business / public space asking for them to be observed. Millions will still going by the rather surprising public backlash ahead of today's announcement but that's their prerogative
