What’s with the massive spike in the last couple of days? Nice to the see the hospital number stalling.

I would imagine a huge chunk is those who were in London. I was down there and have tested positive although all my mates who I was with have tested negative.
I’ve had one dose of Pfizer but Covid has knackered me the past 3 days. Hopefully it’ll get better soon

data from Scotland yesterday showing that whereas two or three weeks ago the ratio of males and females, men and women, who get infections was roughly the same, now it is about three times higher for younger men

Good thing they stopped more people attending in person and outdoors, rather than forcing them into flats across the country then! Another win for 'public health' and 'the science'!

Also, that Stephen Reicher is clearly a VL.

Drive-in Covid testing sites were flooded with people in Sydney's Bondi beachImage caption: Drive-in Covid testing sites were flooded with people in Sydney's Bondi beach

For most of the year, the people of Sydney, Australia's largest city, have enjoyed almost no restrictions on daily life.

But a sharp case rise in the past week has prompted authorities to reinstate distancing rules.

Today, authorities - already concerned about the "extremely contagious" Delta variant - have reported 16 new infections, which brings the cluster there to 37 cases.

Now the city's 5.3 million residents will have to wear masks indoors, and many will be banned from travelling out of the city.

"Please abandon non-essential activities, please don't attend social gatherings unless you absolutely must," says New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian.

You can read more on the story here.

A guy I know in the pub has tested positive (haven't seen him for over a week thankfully). His son, also positive, was down in London. Definitely explains the increases.

2,969 new cases of COVID-19 reported

42,310 new tests for COVID-19 that reported results

7.3% of these were positive

5 new reported death(s) of people who have tested positive

18 people were in intensive care yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19 (unchanged)

170 people were in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19 (down from 171)

3,681,620 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 2,617,450 have received their second dose

Still get the knee-jerk "oh no" feeling when I see the cases and positivity. This is a Pavlov's Dog reflex to the last 15 months when rising cases always meant bad news. Then you read down...and it isn't all that bad.

Not a peep from anyone in the Scottish Government at Holyrood or SNP group at Westminster today, including the transport secretary and spokesperson, respectively. Good to see the travel and tourism industry finally kicking up a stink, though, especially together with the news of UEFA hangers on allowed in for the football hassle free.

I’ve heard of 30-40 people from Perth testing positive after travelling to London.

Almost definitely explains our case increases.

The 30-40 people that tested positive- did they proactively get a LFT down after they went to London or did they do it based on symptoms?

I wonder if going to London has meant that people have got LFTs when they otherwise wouldn't have . And they may already have had CoVID before going.

Flights from Scotland to Manchester should be banned on account of it being fucking stupid when there's a train.

2 of my wifes colleagues are isolating, one’s son went to London and visited them on the way back and has since tested positive, one got track and traced via a martial arts club. They may be about to be another one down as one of their daughters dates a boy who was in london and subsequently tested positive, they told her he wasnt allowed round the house for 10 days but she snuck him in regardless and they now await the obligatory positive test for her. Shite.
Seems a lot of positives are coming from schools too?
