Highest single day admission was 241 on the 11th January. I'm always wary of single day figures so looking at the 7 day averages. In the week to the 11th January the 7 day average was 196.9 per day. In the week to the 11th February the 7 day average was 92.1 per day. In the week to 11th March the 7 day average was 34.6 per day. In the week to 11th April the 7 day average was 17.9 per day. In the week to 11th May the 7 day average was 9/day. On 3rd and 4th May the 7 day average was 7 per day so that will suit some who wish to be cautious and point out there is a small increase from 7 to 9 per day on average over the last week or so but given where we were in January there is a very impressive decrease. In mid January the number of ICU admissions peaked at a 7 day average of 16.4 per day. It is currently 0.7 per day. Hospital and ICU Covid admissions Those hospital numbers have fairly dropped over the past few months. Any idea what's caused it? It'll be because they stopped folk from going into takeaways. An utter fraud of a man. This is all sounding like the decision is made. If there is no uptick in deaths and hospitalisations across the country, entirely unjust as well. Would like to take this back, at least for now. Much as though I think Johnson has handled most of the pandemic badly, I've overreacted a bit here RE "decision made". News caught me at a bad time this afternoon when I was in a pretty foul mood. However it would be good to hear more acknowledgment of the impact the vaccines are making. I think much as the outbreak there is the most severe we've seen for a while, there are some positives to take out of Bolton. Of the hospitalisations, only one had had both doses, a few one dose and the rest were either unvaccinated with the majority being eligible for the vaccine. It is a small sample, yes, but it's also showing the benefit of vaccination. Additionally, we are not seeing pronounced rises in cases amongst the over 60s in Bolton - this is a huge positive. Moreover, there has been a lot of enthusiasm in Bolton for people to go and get vaccinated the last couple of days. Maybe it has taken a bit of a spooking to encourage people to do it, but this is nevertheless a very good thing that's resulted. The outbreak is of course bad news, but there are positives that we can take. Edited May 17, 2021 by Michael W

Forest_Fifer
Prime Minister Peston has announced June 21st isn’t happening in England. So are we just going straight from the 20th to the 22nd? What if its your birthday that day? Seems unfair.
Todd_is_God
From today 10,000 fans / 25% of ground capacity (whichever is lower) can attend stadiums in England. In Scotland that number is 500. Unless you present detailed plans to Clownshoes on how you will get people to and from the ground, implement outdoor one-way systems, keep your car park safe, keep people twice as far apart as they need to be in the pub before and after the game, and to wash their hands. Ridiculous nonsense, that simply cannot be justified. There is no scientific basis for these restrictions at all. None. anotherchance
Caught up on Clownshoes on Off the Ball from the weekend. Ricky fucking Foster holding the National Clincal Director to account better than pretty much anyone else. Questioning about what we need to get back to normal, got an acknowledgement that eradication won't happen, followed by a 3 minute waffle about variants and uncertainty.

It is nonsense that fully vaccinated travellers need to be tested, and also for fully vaccinated UK travellers to require negative PCRs before arrival and potentially those LTF tests as well following arrival. It makes a mockery of the entire vaccination programme, not to mention the utter mess it creates in the airport. The nonsense today from Hancock about not going to Amber list countries was soul destroying as well. It's not illegal, but please don't go to these countries because it's bad. Get fucked, Matt. I'm desperate to get away but to be frank cannot be arsed with the hassle of all this, never mind the testing costs. In many cases they will cost more than the flight itself. That the weather here has been consistently shite since lockdown measures started to be relaxed is not soothing my anger towards the Karens and Susans telling us all to holiday at home at exorbinate cost. tamthebam
Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is knowing not to put one in a fruit salad Knowledge is knowing that there is a Covid variant which spreads easily. Wisdom is knowing that vaccines are likely to kick it's arse and that it may not necessarily lead to hospitals being full of the dying. The scientists and the media seem to be full of knowledge. Not many of them have wisdom and that is the problem.

mizfit
Telegraph is running with a story that the UK Gov is drawing up plans for a full lockdown with businesses being given £18k each. 1) I take it there is a magic money tree2) why? 3) get fucked I get having a worst case scenario plan but they literally just acknowledged vaccines worked. Todd_is_God
This type of chatter when 67.8% of all adults have had at least one dose is incredible. Add in the fact that it is taking place one day after the latest easings and it's an absolute parody. I stand by my thoughts that these 'experts' should face severe penalties for peddling this ruinous pish. They, surely, are either acting maliciously, or are disastrously wrong. Either way they should be laughed out of their job, and confined to a loony bin. Edited May 18, 2021 by Todd_is_God
Michael W
Laughable stuff. You would think we didn't have a vaccine. We are at the very least being lined up for another few months of restrictions being drawn out the bingo caller.

When asked by the interviewer she said she was over the moon to be back out socialising with her friends, the interviewer asked " but do you feel safe ? " "yes absolutely" replied the woman she then went on to say that it was time everyone got back to normal " life is for living, we have to live!" , the interviewer began to seem irritated and kept tryin to bring her back with question with " well do you think everyone wants that? " she kept batting away his pish and he gave up and asked her about working in the care home. tin foil hat stuff but he sounded like he was trying to steer her answers towards this " new normal " shite and the woman was having absolutely none of it. fantastic
